    I check the DeckLink Extreme card…for under a $1000 you get analog in/out + SDI + RS-422 Deck control…

For your RCA, S-Video, BNC and XLR connections you could check out some of the DeckLink card and BlackMagic….They have cards that does the trick…

for your DSR-40…it has a firewire in/out port, so that how you control the deck with FCP…

The only thing I’m not too sure is your drives… we use firewire drives, but you might need to invest in a SCSI card to be able to use your drives.

    hope it helps!

ps. I used Avid for 5 years…didn’t want to believe that FCP could be better….guess what … I sold my avid, my PC and now, we have 3 FCP editing suite and I live for Macs!

Did you check your clips infos (once captured) to see if they were set to anamorphic… there should be a check mark…I’ve captured once in 16:9, the clips came out square and when I looked at the file’s infos in the browser, the aspect ratio was set to 16:9, but the anamorphic box wasn’t checked.

Yeap! you could turn off NAV autoprotect… flush the preferences again…(since it worked after you did it the first time)…

then…maybe get in touch with apple, and list all the steps you did…

Since I’m only capturing in NTSC format, I don’t know if there is a difference in the software’s logic…Apple might now it more than me…

    keep us posted

    good luck,

April 20, 2005 at 4:36 pm in reply to: Crash after log-and-capture

[Kevin Morrison] “I have a video card installed, but the log-and-capture problem persists whether I use the card (which I don’t usually use) or the built-in G4 FireWire ports!”

Were not talking about the same thing….

When u capture, and u see your video in the preview window on your computer, your using your video card.

(probably an ATI with 16megs or ram)

I know on a PC, DV software uses direct X for previewing on the monitor, and some cards dosen’t support Direct X, I don’t know about Mac, but If you haven’t found the problem yet…check that out, you never know…

In the beautifull world of computer, I’ve learned to never assume.

If it was working for a certain period, then I’d say that it would be less possible, but If you always had that problem…

[the corporal] “ok they’re seemed to be some mix up with the replys but here it goes again.

External device is Lacie D2 250Gb with 100Gb free. definatly enough for a 15min clip to be captured.
it’s the same device that is used in conjuntion with the powerbook without any problems.
the final cut is a full legit copy (not some cut down p2p version).
    any ideas?
    thanks in advance
    Lec”

Since everything seems to be OK, we’ll have to start from the bottom…

Check your System settings, try changing your Firewire cable, what are your capture preset, have tried capturing with a different software…That could give you a better clue on weather its a software problem or a hardware problem.

Also you could try capturing your video and audio to different drives…

    let me know,

OK! back to the drawing board…

how much space is there left on your drive your capturing on.

use the disk utility to check your drive for corruption…

    lets take it from there
