Did you put your graded files in
Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1 folder?
If so you should see them in Media Tool in AMC

AMA detects folders named with RMD and RDC and files named .R3D. So, if you retain proper magazine/folder structure
(Your HD)/camera+reel_date.RMD/camera+reel_clip_date+random number.RDC
everything should work fine.
As AVID RED AMA Plug-in Guide explains – the system names clips by Camera Letter + Reel Number + Month + Day + a two digit alphanumerical random number.
So simple R3D file
A013_C022_0805RA_001.R3D
will look like this in AVID: R3D in AVID
But in Resolve (with “Assist using reel numbers from the:” set to “Embedding in source clip file”)
will look like this: R3D in ResolveYou can of course change Reel manually in Resolve. However – for reason I cannot anyhow explain – after rendering to MXF, Reel value from Resolve is put in Tape column in AVID (only when “Use Prefix, Suffix, No. of Digits from Source” on Render page is turned on – without that there will be no Reel nor Tape info)
MXF from Resolve in AVID (marked in yellow is original file)
Hence, before you relink in AVID – at least in my understanding, AVID seems to be picky about Tape – you’re have to make AVID think source files and graded ones come from the same… source.
Hope this helps (and doesn’t spoil the party – I haven’t tested that workflow in R3D reality 😉

Be sure you select correct drive within Media Tool (I assume you put graded files in MXF folder)
Put graded clips in new bin
To relink graded clips to sequence created on AVID during AAF export make sure source files in AVID and those from Resolve ones have the same info in… Tape column.
Select graded clips, then your sequence, choose Relink and check “Select items in ALL open bins” (this allows you to link sequence from one bin to clips in another, unless you put everything in one bin).
Hit OK.
Hope this works,

From Cédric Lejeune
(Colourist group at LinkedIn, thread “Gamma Curve Setting for our critical colour evaluation monitor”)
“It mostly depends on the viewing environment. General recommendations are 2.0 in non controlled daylight lighting, 2.2 in dim light and 2.5 in dark room. In a telecine room (…) 2.3-2.4, in a brighter room where there is light from the outside 2.2. And between 25 and 35 fL depending on the lighting and the technology, more like 20 for a dark room if it’s a monitor, 16 fL (14 with LUT) for projection”.
Hope this helps.

Jim,
You might take a look at this article
Then you might consider signing up for Patrick Inhofer’s training
https://masterclass.taoofcolor.com/
Or taking online classes with Warren Eagles (soon to be annunced over FXPHD.com) or Alexis van Hurkman’s course at RippleTraining.com (should be ready soon). I would also recommend following Alexis’s and his #Resolve tips at Twitter as well.
And above all – read manual.
Hope that helps.

Craig,
Here’s the list of books you could find interesting
https://www.finalcolor.com/Booklist.htm
I would second Sascha and recommend Itten’s ‘The Art Of Color’. But add to this ‘Number by colors’ (a bit of geekery), funny ‘If it’s purple someone’s gonna die’ and comprehensive ‘Film into Video’. I haven’t looked at Ansel’s ‘The Print’ or ‘The Negative’ but heard they’re a must read.
You might consider signing up for ICA classes (although fxphd might be a cheaper way – https://www.fxphd.com/page/5/ with Warren Eagles, one of ICA co-founders)

My workflow so far is to use video-mixdowned MXF file from AVID and put it through Scene Cut Detection in Resolve. Not too convenient, even though EDLs rarely show up on time…
Yesterday I asked editor for different versions of the same EDL – CMX 3600, 340, with Source TC set to Start, 25, Record TC to 25 and so on. Wondering if there maybe lies my problem. Without success.
I even tried to load – heck, why not if nothing works – EDL in Scene Cut Detection. Resolve told me there were no details about cuts inside file I provided…
Rendering out MXF file works fine (AVID is happy with it).
Can’t say anything about AAF and ALE so far.
