Anyone out there have any experience with transcoding with Resolve’s Avid codecs then reopening in Avid Media Composer 5.5.up?
These Pro res files are being transcoded in Resolve to MXF Dnx 36 8bit. Having a slight problem opening them in Media Composer but they will open fine if they are taken back into Resolve?

How are you trying to bring them in to Avid?

Did you put your graded files in

    Avid MediaFiles/MXF/1 folder?

If so you should see them in Media Tool in AMC

    Cheers,

    Hi Dave,

Please make sure the reel number support in Resolve is enabled (in the config page), else Resolve renders here files with no reel/tape information, and Avid doesn’t like these MXF files.

    Regards,
    Rohit

    Rohit,

    Could you elaborate?

I’m having problems with relinking files from Resolve in AVID.

The issue is AVID can reconnect basing on either ‘Tape Name’ or ‘Source’ from AMA sequences.

Would it be possible to add ‘Tape name’ or ‘Source’ to Resolve import/export metadata?

    Cheers,
    M

Are you referencing under “Timeline Conform Options” the 1.Assist using reel numbers from the
And which has been with your experience the best option to use.
Either “Media folder name” or “Embedding in source clip name”?
Thanks for all your help I am narrowing in on a solution.

I had not put them in the Avid folder 1 the first time. They were in their own folder because I was trying to keep the original file structure intact, but maybe that is the wrong way to look at this.
    Thanks again for the help.

I too am looking for a way back whether it “linked” or not.
Anything Ive rendered in Resolve 8 to MXF is not recognized by Avids file systems.
has anyone managed to see an Resolve MXF in their bins?

Yes – you can use any of the options there depending on the source media. If you are using Red, you can use “Embedding in Source files”. For Red, this uses the filename of the R3D file without the _001 as the tape name.

It is important to enable this before rendering, else Avid Media Tool won’t pick up the MXF file.

You may create folder named “2” or “3” or “4” … and put your files there.

Thanks Rohit, can you elaborate a little?
If RED do you mean using RED clips in Resolve then at Render set that option? I thought Ive tried everything even adding that _001 to the rendered file and still Avid refuses.
Ive posted this question on here and REDUser concerning Avid AAF Round tripping.
