  • Analog component can’t do that. SD formats are interlaced PAL or NTSC

I live in Belgium. I have a collegue living in LA who comes to our office every 6 weeks.
He could for example bring the tapes, I could transfer the tape(s) and them give it back to him with a harddisk.
I can transfer strait in Apple ProRes through an AJA KiPro.

Will the KiPro /Mini be able at some point to do the same as the MacBook does automatically to fix, when the disk / flash was unmounted properly?
I had ones a customer not following the procedure, causing me to drive up to the client to fix it for him. Simply by plugging it through FireWire to my MBP.

What also could have happened when unplugging from the MBP, is that is was not unmounted properly with the ‘eject’. Then the AJA will not recognize the drive.
If that happened, plugging it back to the MBP, and unmounting again should fix it.
First thing I would do is go to Disk Utility, and check the harddrive.

I used it also for playback on an event.
I did number 001-033 in front of the files. But what turns out… The order stayed the same as apparently the file date is been used as file order. Which is a bummer for this application finding all the files.

March 26, 2011 at 9:15 am in reply to: Ki Pro timecode issue on playback

I also reported it to support a few months ago with 720p50.
Recording is fine, dubbing that recording to another KiPro with LTC connected, does not work, as the second KiPro doesn’t recognize the time-code.
I had to record the time-code on one audio track (connected to the second KiPro LTC input) to get it to work.
My setup was that I used one Ki Pro to play the soundtrack with big Time-code window in the video, to have other AJA KiPro’s ISO record the camera’s for the videoclip shoot.
I tested the same setup in NTSC land and 60P/I, it all worked. So I’m pretty sure it’s a glitch in the firmware for PAL and 50P/I formats. As it did work in the previous firmware
If you need help in beta testing AJA, I’m sure me and others would like to help to solve this issue.

March 26, 2011 at 9:04 am in reply to: KiPro Mini rec trigger and continuous record

I have 4 AJA KiPro’s for ISO recording, and for my run&gun camera for events was capturing in JVC MPEG2 through Focus Enhancenments FireWire recording..
To align my workflow, and to make editing easier I sold my Focus Enhancement MD-HD100 to switch to AJA Ki Pro Mini. The MPEG2 vs Apple ProRess422 is a big improvement, simply love it.
But what I didn’t realize was, that I would have to go back looking back for my old tapes (which I don’t use for 4 years anymore!) to be able to get time-code rolling on the HD-SDI out. As the Camera otherwise doesn’t see media to record on. Yes, It’s camera related, nothing to do with AJA.
Therefore the FireWire port is missing on the KiPro Mini to achieve the same results I had before.
As the Focus equipment was communicating through the FireWire to the camera for triggering and viewfinder information.
It would be definatly a big help for many camera’s if it was supported in maybe a future update on the KiPro Mini2? My JVC camera’s have no LANC, so the Lens control input like on the KiPro has is also no alternative.
What I knew upfront was that I would lose the indication in the viewfinder that the external unit was attached/recording, and how much was left for storage.
I just wanted to explain Gary that It just feels strange I now have to go back to tapes, wear & tear my camera, to be able to record on the hi-tech KiPro Mini.
If JVC would bring out a firmware version which starts running time-code when the lens REC without tape-media would be the solution for my current setup. But I doubt they will do that.

I’ve put multiple formats and framerate in the AJA folder which works fine.
Make sure they are in the AJA subfolder.

In my case I could control all 4 of them through the webpages. But I suspect the AJA protocol which detects the units for gang recording fails to detect ones and a while. I made a video of it which I wil send to AJA support.
