I am with Ben on this, you can open multiple libraries simultaneously.

If possible, maybe consider creating a Library where the footage is kept separate (external), although FCPX will find ways of encoding it and filling up your library.

Sadly, FCPX and media codecs / management is still just above iMovie level, in comparison to its peers…

Hey Robert,

Can only add the great advice already given;, coming from the old days of video-tape editing, that you could use a “camera shake” effect, with a minimum of shake to give the impression of movement.

Alternatively, if you have time on your hand, you may want to consider creating a parallax effect. There are plenty of them, including some where you can do most, if not all the work in Photoshop.

There is a recent discussion over on the A.I. forum on Topaz – based on that, I got a licence for my own suite. Given me some impressive results already on CCTV and Zoom footage.
Only drawback, is that it is standalone, and does not currently plug into anything.

Hey Ryan,

It has been a little while since I edited on Avid hardware, but H264 seems to be one of the codecs it didn’t like much. Can you use a different “wrapper” for the file?

About the Sony FX6, in Premiere Pro, there is something weird going on with the codec from that and the FX3 camera. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t.
Recently I wanted to transcribe some rushes. Had export audio to Wav file, and insert on time-line to make that happen inside PPro.

Haven’t got to the bottom of it yet why it is that footage from those cameras are not happy.

Hey Laurie,

FCPX is a real pain in the back-side when it comes to keeping track of sync across clips.

Sadly they haven’t got around to making the “info” panel that PPro have – just line up your cursor, and it will show you timecodes at that point across all tracks – very helpful when working with 3 cameras and external audio recorder.

However, PPro won’t solve your problem – sorry for getting lost.

If I was you, the quickest way is to double up on the clip, so you have the two video clips “stuck” together, with one attached audio track “muted”, and one that you move around.
At least then you can get back to where you started.

Hope this helped you, and will hopefully get Apple to put some effort into developing FCPX.

Hey Paul,

Yes, the import of even 2023 projects/time-lines into a 2023 Premiere Pro project is not stable.
I worked on a project last week where it just got stuck on importing – Media Browser did not help, except for taking forever, before I gave up. Not that my client was impatient, but I can’t charge for “down-time” on something that should work as described.

My workstation is not lacking processing or memory…

I suspect that part of the issue could be space on C Drive, not helped by Creative Cloud not being able to be a Cloud only folder.

Hey Nicholas,

The first clip is fairly easy to build in PPro.

You just need to group a bunch of pictures together, and then move them across the screen in different directions – simple explanation, I know – but by keeping it simple, you can do this faster, than looking for and potentially paying for an effect.

Depending on how you feel about it, might be easier to build in After Effects.

Good Point.
Adobe Premiere Pro will off-line let you create Speech to Text, with time-code (even just for transcript, I use it on most productions).
If you want something without a subscription, there is also Nuance Dragon which will allow you to import audio files (I only checked the Professional version).

However, reason for why most services are on-line, is because the language libraries they access keeps on improving and expanding – I understand that both Goggle and AWS runs language libraries, just to mention the “big” ones.

I am a fan, and user of Nova, which does a lot more, including logging your rushes, than just transcribing and creating subtitles. Because of what is under the hood, they can also translate the transcript from any selected language, to a large number of languages and create subtitles (although not 100% accurate, sometimes as low as 70% – depending on source and/or target language). Over the last year I have for my clients transcribed English productions and translated to Spanish (Mexican), and a few African languages.
