Hey Eric,

Out of interest, what frame-rates are you shooting on?

And, have you got any experience with using “add-on” ND filters?

Yes, I was not entirely impressed with the IBC launch of the smaller camera, and thought that this might come sooner or later.

However, got the SDI that I wanted, but lost the HDMI out on this – can’t win…
Although some might argue that it is more important what happens at the front, except for me it is also about the various productions that I can use it on.

But certainly worth considering as an entry point into high-end film making.

Hey Nick,

There are plenty of posts on the COW about hardware.

I am myself mainly using PC for work, except the odd FCPX job on Mac.

The specs that you are listing are IMHO far too low for professional work. If you are looking to go full in with the whole of the Creative Cloud.

My advice would be:

Minimum 64GB Ram.

1TB SSD drive for boot and Software + 4TB SSD drive for media etc.

NVidia is whatever you can afford, but try factor in one of their new ADA cards.

Processor; Intel is a good choice. But are you just playing back video, or will you be doing Compositing / After Effects?

As suggested, there are plenty of recent articles around – you’ll find that we all have different opinions depending on the work we do. But if your brother can build you something that is easy to upgrade, start out low, and upgrade when stuck.

Hey Jon,

There is a lot of information missing.

For starters, does your Mac see the VTR and/or the video signal?
If not, it is likely not to work.

Next part is whether your Premiere Pro 6 can read the codec?

With no technical information, it is difficult to give you a straight answer.
Depending on how many tapes you have, you might be better off using a transfer service to do the job for you.

Hey David,

Several reasons for why that could happen, although it shouldn’t.

Have you tried to move the time-line into a new project?

I would also check drive space + if the footage is on a separate drive/card, that might be doing its own thing.

Last and most annoying idea, is to render out in smaller chunks and see if you get everything, before stitching them back together.
Certainly faster than having to start a 1-hour render from scratch.

As always, there are smarter people around here who will know better.

Hey Robert,

You can transcribe your takes on import, and use the text editor inside Premiere Pro to highlight and use the lines that you need.

You should be able to sub-clip to “bin”, and then make a timeline from that bin.
I have not tried it myself, so could be pure guesswork. 😉

You use the word “tape”, but is this audio only, or on video?

There are several ways to do comping, whereas you say, you record multiple versions. That are stacked in PPro, or Audio editing software. And then pick out the best bits.

You could also use cloud services like NOVA
(Full disclosure, I am a user, and have invested a tiny amount of money via Seedrs into the company).
Here you can use the video analyzer to upload and analyze your videos. Once you do a search it should find that phrase across all your takes.

Hey Noam,

There are many ways of doing this, but the cost of re-shooting with the right glasses is likely to be more “cost-effective” than the VFX work you will need to do to isolate the glasses and changing that specific colour.

In any case, it is difficult to comment unless you share actual screen-shots.
As all you will get, is guess-work.

Yes, I noticed that Frame.IO has made a version jump – not sure that the number makes any difference at all?

But I would have much more respect for Adobe if they turned the “Cloud” back on again.

Hey James,

SRT file is the most basic of basic, to make it universal across all media.

Think of it like saving a complex word.doc (with pictures and all) as .txt file – you will only end up with numbers and text.
There are other formats, but you are most likely to end back at where you are now. With a video file that has Burned-in-text on it with italics, and one without subtitles with a SRT file to go with it.
