Hi Jonathan,
Your DeckLink Extreme automatically down converts your HDV material to SD and outputs it in an uncompressed format to your SD monitor. Assuming you can see the down-converted standard definition video on the SD monitor, this is the same video that you can output to Digibeta.
You will also need to onnect the RS-422 cable from DeckLink Extreme to the deck so that you have deck control and timecode accuracy. As long as you are using one of the Blackmagic HDV easy setups, you should be able to control the deck via the RS-422 cable.
One thing to note is that when you attempt to record HDV material to a deck using Final Cut Pro 5.0.2, it will go through a lengthy “conforming” process before the video is recorded to tape. So do not be surprised if you have to wait before the video starts to record to tape even though you are able to monitor the playback of you HDV video in real time.

Hi Matthew,
I would suggest updating to the DeckLink 4.8.1r2 drivers but, apart from that, your system is up to date and should be working fine. Are you experiencing a problem or just wanting to know what is the best configuration to run?

Subsequent to your original post, we have found audio problems to be one of the common issues seen with Mac OS X 10.3.9 when used with DeckLink cards. So my guess is that your issue really may have been related to Mac OS X 10.3.9 and hopefuly it will not recur with Mac OS X 10.3.8 and DeckLink 4.8.1r2 drivers.
The deck should lock to the video signal from DeckLink so you should not require a blackburst generator. This works fine with Digibetas especially the DVWA500 you were using.

Hi,
Can you please fill the disk array to about 80% full and then run the test again. Empty disk array results are usually impressive but you need to know how much the disk array will slow down as it becomes full.
It would be great to see postings from other people about their SATA disk arrays and it will be even more useful if they can indicate how full the disk array was when running the test.
Another factor worth knowing is whether SATA or SATA II disks are being used. We’ve just received a new SATA disk array and so I hope to post some results soon when we’ve finished configuring it.

It was going to be reintroduced in the DeckLink 5.1.1 drivers but was removed when we found a bug with it. Hopefully it will make it in to the next release.

The Blackmagic Disk Speed Test utility will only run with a DeckLink card installed in your PC but you can use any DeckLink card for this purpose.
If you would like to tell us about your proposed disk array, we can probably suggest whether it will be suitable or not. Will you be connecting via SATA, SCSI or Fiber Channel and how many disks will be used?

Bob’s suggestion is probably the answer to your problem. However if you find that you still cannot output video from your Io to the Workgroup Videohub after the software/firmware update, it would be a good idea to check if you can output video from the Io regardless of whether the Videohub is connected or not. In other words, try connecting a monitor directly to the Io to check for video output. Obviously if it’s not outputting video then Videohub won’t receive any video.
I would also suggest that you review the support note No video output from DeckLink in Final Cut Pro HD v5.0. While this was written with DeckLink cards in mind, it should also apply to other capture devices used with Final Cut Pro 5.0.

Hi Riccardo,
Naming of clips is required before a capture otherwise your NLE won’t know what name to use. If you are using Final Cut Pro, open the PDF Help manual and go to the section “Logging and Capturing Media” which explains how to perform batch logging prior to capture. You can use a spreadsheet program to construct a batch capture list which can then be imported in to FCP prior to capture. There is a section about this in the PDF manual named “Creating and Importing a Batch Capture List”.

Does this also happen if you use Blackmagic Deck Control or is it only in FCP?
Can you please provide the versions of software you are using for FCP, Mac OS X, QuickTime and DeckLink drivers?
What are you using for disk storage and what speed does Blackmagic Disk Speed Test report for your disk array.
Finally, which Blackmagic easy setup are you using in FCP?
