The DeckLink SP is a 10-bit SDI card with analog convertors on it for capture and playback to an analog Betacam SP deck. The internal data path of the Betacam SP is 8-bit so we’ve got:

The PCIe to PCI-X bridge card has been delayed. We had been working on it and then identified a number of bugs in the main bridge chip which we referred to the manufacturer of that chip. Two months ago, the chip manufactuer told us it would take about 3 months to address these bugs. So that means the chip might be ready in about a month and then we can recommence testing with the card we have built for it. At the time we were developing the bridge card, there was only one bridge chip available. More recently bridge chips from other manufacturers have entered the market and we might try using them if the original chip supplier takes too long. However this would involve engineering the bridge card from scratch and that could take a while. So I am not sure what our final decision will be but we will know more in a month.
If you already have some model of HD-SDI card, then you can use it to connect to the Multibridge Extreme even without a PCIe to PCI-X bridge card. This will still enable you to connect to both analog and digital devices as well as using the DVI-D monitoring output of the Multibridge Extreme. The DeckLink HD Pro Dual Link card, to which you have referred, is an example of an SDI card and you could use it (or any other SDI card) to connect to the Multibridge Extreme.
Out of curiosity, can you point me to the UK site which is advertising the bridge card? I’m not aware of ever publishing a price for the card so I am intrigued by this. We want the bridge card to be as inexpensive as possible, and I believe that we were aiming for around US$200, but I’m not aware of any price being published as the card has not been released and we won’t know the final cost until the chip manufacturer has eliminated some bugs.

Hi,
Which model of DeckLink card are you using. What software did you use to perform the capture, eg Final Cut Pro or Premiere Pro? Did you perform a high definition or standard definition capture. Are you using Mac OS X or Windows XP? Your answers to these questions will help me to understand your problem?

That’s very strange. Could you please post a frame of the HD video and also a frame of the down converted video in a directory of your web site. You can then post the links here in the format:

Hi Paul,
I just tried this on a simple Blackmagic HDTV 1080i59.97 sequence and it down converted to NTSC without problems. I’m using Final Cut Pro HD 5.0.2, Mac OS X 10.4.2, QuickTime 7.0.3 and DeckLink 5.1.1 drivers. Are you using similar versions?

Hi,
DeckLink cards are 10-bit uncompressed SDI video capture cards for maximum video quality. Using Premiere Pro 1.5.1 and any DeckLink HD series card, you can capture your HDV content from a camera using an inexpensive FireWire 400 card. Premiere Pro will automatically transcode the HDV material to an 8 or 10-bit uncompressed timeline for use with the DeckLink card. Uncompressed video requires a disk array with capacity and speed (8 SATA disks is advisable) but will enable you to apply effects, transitions and text without any generational degradation of image quality which occurs with compressed codecs. HDV is a very useful format but it is tightly compressed and will certainly suffer from generational loss if you apply renders and effects to it. You can also monitor the transcoded video as you work on it and then output to a deck such as a HDCAM or D5 via HD-SDI.

Hi,
The Dell 2405FPW 24″ UltraSharp Wide Screen LCD Monitor has DVI-D, component analog and composite analog inputs. We have used the component inputs for displaying component HD analog video. Composite is only an SD technology and maybe that is what the salesperson had in mind when they mentioned that the analog connection was only for SD input? In any case, the component analog is working well for HD in our case but obviously DVI-D is crisper as there is no analog noise.
