Hi Leo,
What format of video are you using, eg DV or uncompressed 10-bit? Is this a new problem or has it always occurred? If it is a new problem, can you think of anything that has changed which might explain the problem?
If you output to deck, does the rough text get recorded to the deck or is it only a monitoring problem?

Can you provide some more detail about this? For example, does this mean that the broadcast monitor “jumps” or flickers or that there is some kind of color problem or artefacts on the monitor? Does any audio distortion accompany the video glitches?

I’m a little confused. You had previously mentioned that the card with which you were seeing the problem was the Kona SD and I have received a handful of reports of a similar problem with the Kona SD but have been unable to replicate it with the Kona SD cards we have.
This problem does not affect DeckLink cards and the Blackmagic drivers continue to fully support Apple’s RT Extreme effects and dynamic playback with both DeckLink and Kona SD cards.
We’re not going to be able to fix a problem unless we can replicate it. So please keep an eye on the problem and let me know if you become aware of any further steps required to replicate the problem.

Hi Chris,
I’m guessing you are working in PAL frame rates. So just capture your HDV material in to Final Cut Pro and drop it in to a Blackmagic HDTV 1080i50 HDV timeline by using the associated easy setup. Your DeckLink Extreme will automatically down convert the material to PAL and you can preview this on your SD broadcast monitor to see how it will look. The DeckLink PrefPane provides the choice of Letterbox or Anamorphic down conversion and the results should be excellent. Please be aware that when you finally go to record your down converted HDV material to tape, there will be a lengthy conforming process before the SD video is recorded to tape. This is a current working of the HDV format in FCP and is nothing to do with the down conversion.
If you run in to any problems at all, you could always switch the output of the HDV camera to DV. Then use FCP to capture to DV and output that with the DeckLink Extreme. However we’ve tested the workflow that you want to use and it works just fine.

As you would know, Apple has announced the new Power Mac G5 machines, and as these are based on PCI Express (PCIe), I want to update you on the status of the PCI Express models of our products.
Available today is the DeckLink Extreme PCIe product which is a PCI Express version of the popular DeckLink Extreme card. This card is currently shipping in a product box that has stickers indicating it is a Windows product only. However this card is also compatible with these new Mac systems, and the current DeckLink Macintosh 5.1.1 driver already has support for this card running in the new Mac systems.
Please ignore the sticker on the box showing that DeckLink Extreme PCIe is Windows only, as it is fully Mac OS X compatible, using the latest drivers from our web site.
If you have one of these new Macs already, please download the driver and check it out. Functionality is the same as the current DeckLink cards, it’s just the PCI interface that is different.
All other models of DeckLink standard definition cards should be shipping within the week. I will let you know as the other models become available.
DeckLink HD cards are only a few weeks away, and we are working hard to complete these and have them shipping before the Quad Core Mac G5 systems are available.
All prices of PCI Express (PCIe) based products are the same cost as the existing PCI and PCI-X models.
Some customers have already asked for PCIe upgrades, and unfortunately if we want to sell affordably priced products there is currently no scope for upgrades. Generally at these price points, it’s rare for upgrades, and I think customers have got very good value from the DeckLink cards.
We also expect to keep selling PCI models for some time to come.
Multibridge Extreme has been delayed and has not shipped yet. The good news is we are just about complete on this product, and think it’s only a week or two away at the most. We are starting to build production units today. However we want to make sure everything is well tested before shipping, so we expect another week of testing before everything is checked out.
I will let you know over the next week or two as the new PCIe versions of our products are released.

Yes to both 🙂 You can open Apple clips with the Blackmagic codecs and Blackmagic codecs with the Apple clips. It does not matter whether you are using an DeckLink or other system and it does not matter whether you are running Mac OS X or Windows.
