Hi Dan,
Yes, you should be able to capture and output composite video with the DeckLink HD Extreme and the DSR 20 deck. What happens if you simply connect a composite TV or monitor directly to the output of the deck? Does it also receive a bad signal?
Please go in to the DeckLink PrefPane and set the “Black video output to deck in capture” to “analog”. You will also need to set the deck to use internal or Auto reference rather than external reference. I think your deck has a genlock option so you could always try that instead of the “Black video output to deck in capture” option and see if that helps too.
Something else you could try is use S-video instead of composite video and see if that works any better. You will need a S-Video breakout cable for input and output, ie you will need two of these cables.

That’s odd. Did you run the DeckLink uninstaller before upgrading to the latest drivers? That might help as I’m not aware of any other similar reports.

I think you are asking if the JPEG codec uses intraframe compression (each frame is treated seperately) or interframe compression such as MPEG and HDV. The JPEG codec uses intraframe compression so it is easy to edit your media when you have captured it to a JPEG timeline.
I’m not sure what you are asking in regards to timelapse event recording. Intensity needs to receive video at a standard TV rate such as 25 or 29.97 Hz. Having said that, it would probably be possible to capture Varicam material at different frame rates if a Varicam device exists with HDMI ouput. I’m not aware of one. Can you provide me with an example of the type of device from which you would like to capture a timelapse event? Does this device have HDMI output?
I am hopeful that we will be able to run Intensity and Multibridge Extreme in the one computer although I doubt the initial drivers will support that. However I expect that might be possible via a software switch as it would be nice to capture through HDMI and then output through any of the outputs of Multibridge Extreme.
Intensity is due for release soon and then the engineers can look at whether they can run Intensity alongside other cards in the same computer. I can’t promise that but we’d like to do it if we can and I am hopeful it can be achieved.

It’s going to depend on the speed of your PC but if you have a very fast machine, I believe you could get a couple of streams of HD in real time using the Online JPEG codec. I guess we’ll get a much better idea when we release the new drivers and start seeing postings in this forum about what PC’s people are using and how many streams they can obtain. The engineers have mostly been concentrating on have a high quality, low bandwidth, codec and will need to do more testing before I can say anything definitive about the number of streams you can expect but 2 seems plausible.

Can you please try the DeckLink card in slot 4 (top slot) and select the second profile from the Expansion Slot Utility. That might help but it does seem odd that it was working fine and then “disappeared”. Did anything about the software or hardware configuration of your Mac change between the time all was working fine and when it stopped working?

Hi Ghobii,
Sony have certified DeckLink cards for use with Vegas 7.0a using DeckLink 5.6 drivers for Windows. Apparently they tested SDI i/o but not analog i/o. We’re performing our own testing with the release version of Vegas 7.0a and expect to have updated information available in a few days.

That’s a tough question as there are a lot of nice HDMI monitors out there and we have been testing with a wide range of brands and types. I do know we have been particularly happy with Panasonic HDMI TV’s including the following 50″ and 32″ models: TH-50PHD8UK and TX-32LX500A.

Sony Media have Software have certified the DeckLink 5.6 drivers for Windows for use with Vegas 7.0a. Their testing was confined to SDI capture and playback. We’re testing the release version of Vegas 7.0a now and expect to update our support notes within a few days regarding Vegas 7.0a.
