That’s correct. The DeckLink Extreme is an SDI card with analog convertors on it. SDI expects video with embedded audio. If there is no video stream, then there is no where for the audio to embed so you won’t hear anything.

You do not have to capture video but you do need a token video source. Even a composite analog video signal will do.

Hi Mel,

Which previous version of drivers were you running which worked well for you? Does the problem affect both your Digibeta and Betacam SP? How do you connect the DeckLink Pro to the Betacam SP given that one is SDI and the other is analog? Are you working in NTSC or PAL?

I would doubt that the ProApps 4.0 is a factor as it was mostly an interface update for several of the ProApps. I can’t rule it out but I suspect the problem lies elsewhere. If it is a driver problem, we’ll certainly fix it. However we check with post houses with lots of decks which are reporting no problems so your answers will be important to our understanding of the problem.

Hi Jarrod,

Would you please check if you have down conversion enabled in your System Preferences>DeckLink. If you do, it will happily downconvert video running at 25 or 29.97 Hz for PAL and NTSC video respectively. That’s why it wouldn’t downconvert 30 Hz video as this does not match the NTSC frame rate.

Thanks for testing this. Which model of Panasonic display are you using? Kristian has emailed you a utility which should extract the EDID information from your display so we can check why it doesn’t work in SD.

Hi Patrick,

The 2 GB fix for the standard definition PCIe cards will be included in a driver update within the next week. It was going to be included in the DeckLink 6.2 drivers but then Final Cut Studio 2 shipped earlier than scheduled so we had to defer the fix until after this release. We really want that issue to be solved so that’s why we’ll have another driver update within the next week and not wait for a month which is our usual driver cycle.

Sorry I missed your reply. While you could easily capture analog video from the Digibeta and the Betacam SP using the Intensity Pro, audio will be a little trickier as the decks are outputting balanced professional level audio whereas the Intensity is capturing unbalanced HiFi audio. If you already have a mixer, then you should be able to adjust this so it works fine. If you don’t have a mixer, then you would need a device such as the Rolls MB15 ProMatch which costs around US$70.

The Intensity Pro will capture directly from the analog video and audio outputs from your HDR-FX1 camera as it uses unbalance HiFi audio so no modifications are necessary.

Hi Erik,

I don’t believe that 1080p23.98 is part of the HDMI standard and so that’s why you can’t use it directly with your HDMI TV. To solve the problem, switch your easy setup to Blackmagic HDTV 1080 23.98 -> 59.94 and then your TV should be able to play out the 1080i59.94 signal.

Shake 4.1 has some issues which we’ve logged with Apple. Are you using Shake 4.1 or an earlier version? Which versions of Mac OS X and QuickTime are you running. Are you using our freeware codecs or the ones installed by our drivers. If you have DeckLink or Multibridge drivers installed, which version are you using?
