August 10, 2011 at 5:10 pm in reply to: Having Difficulty with Kona 3G & Premiere Pro CS5.5AJA advised me that my MacPro (version 2,1) may be the problem. The Kona 3G has to be running in 64 bits and my version of MacPro isn’t able to do so. Looks like I have to get a new MacPro.

Less stuttery at 1/4 resolution, but then it gets too blurry. This is when playing from an AJA sequence. When I play back an Adobe sequence, it plays just fine on my apple displays, but I loose the client monitor signal from the Kona card. AJA is working to find a solution.

I have a Mac Pro Model 2,1 and just beefed up the memory to 24 GB, but I don’t see Premiere Pro CS5.5 taking advantage of this ram. Shouldn’t 64 bit Snow Leopard allow CS5.5 to use more ram? R3D files only play back in realtime at 1/4 resolution. 1/2 and full resolution plays back choppy. It performed the same with 8GB of RAM.
The GeForce GTX 285 is no longer available. Does this card work well with the Mac Pro 2,1 and if so, where can I get one?

Thanks Kevin, for your help. I look forward to trying your suggestion in the morning. For now, I need some shut eye. 16 hours of AE is enough for one day. Lol.

I contacted Apple and they instructed me to perform a P-RAM reset.
I had to power down my Mac Pro and disconnect my two monitors and the power cable from the tower.
Then, I had to press the power button for 6 seconds.
After that, I reconnected the monitors and power cable and fired up the mac pro (WHILE HOLDING DOWN THE P, R, OPTION, APPLE KEYS). After the first chime, I was able to see the apple icon on my screen. At that point, I let go of the aforementioned buttons.
Apple advised me to contact them if the problem occurs again. If these steps don’t work, the next step might be to take it to a service center.
I’ll post again if these steps didn’t work.

I also discovered that the speakers stop working when the monitors go to black. The speakers remain powered, but receive no signal from the tower. Same with the monitors.
Is this the sign of an over heating computer? I can still hear the fan inside running, though. I might have to open her up and take a peak.
