  • Having trouble importing DPX files into Premiere Pro CS5.5

Posted by Luis Ortiz on August 8, 2011 at 9:13 pm

In Premiere Pro CS5.5, I created an EDL from a sequence of R3D files (shot at 23.976 fps). I opened the EDL in Apple Color (rest in peace) and was able to color correct it and render out DPX files.

Back in Premiere Pro CS5.5, I imported the DPX files into a sequence and noticed that each DPX “still” had a duration of 6 seconds and 6 frames. Of course, when I played back this DPX sequence, it appeared to be playing back at super slow motion speed (even though the play head moved accordingly – 23.976).

The attached photos show my render settings in Color and how the DPX files look in Premiere Pro’s Project window. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don’t think this workflow is viable right now. As I understand it, you must bring XML from Premiere Pro into FCP,
then into Color. If anyone has this working right with an EDL from Premiere Pro into Apple Color and a DPX output, please let me know.

We are now working to get a smooth workflow with Resolve. I suggest you look at that application going into the future.

If a workflow with Apple Color is important to you, file a feature request: https://www.adobe.com/go/wish

Thank you, Kevin. With Apple no longer supporting Color, maybe not worth pursuing. I’ll be looking into Resolve.
