Mercury playback engine compatible card for a 2007 Mac Pro
Hi All
When checking the specs for a Quadro 4000 for Mac graphics card I realised it’s not compatible with my MacPro circa 2007 – the 2.1 model. Any one know of another card(s) that will give me Mercury playback capability with my Mac Pro in CS5.5?

I’m in a similar situation. I have a Mac Pro Model 2,1 and just beefed up the memory to 24 GB, but I don’t see Premiere Pro CS5.5 taking advantage of this ram. Shouldn’t 64 bit Snow Leopard allow CS5.5 to use more ram? R3D files only play back in realtime at 1/4 resolution. 1/2 and full resolution plays back choppy. It performed the same with 8GB of RAM.
The GeForce GTX 285 is no longer available. Does this card work well with the Mac Pro 2,1 and if so, where can I get one?

It’s more of a computer speed issue with decoding and scaling of R3D files, than the amount of RAM. That said, ensure your memory settings are optimized.
On a side note, you will see the benefit of more RAM on longer and more complex timelines (sequences), dynamic linking, etc.
