FCPX will only see projects and events if they are located in a specific place.
On your system drive, that’s in:
~/Movies/Final Cut Projects and ~/Movies/Final Cut EventsOn any other drive, such as a second internal or an external, they need to be located in the highest level of the drive like this:
/External Hard Drive Name/Final Cut Events
/External Hard Drive Name/Final Cut ProjectsOtherwise FCPX won’t see it. There is an exception to this, where if using an xsan you can store your projects and events anywhere, then specify its location within FCPX.

I think for the web most people like to let the peaks go all the way to 0. I’d suggest using a compressor to make a more consistent volume. I generally try to keep the music around -20db when there’s dialogue.

I second checking the console app.
Here’s something else you can try. Create a new event and dump all the missing media into it. From the project browser, select your project and view the inspector. Under the properties tab, click the modify event references button. It should see your new event, drag that to the top. That should at least bring all of your media back online.
To attempt to repair the event, first make a backup copy of your CurrentVersion.fcpevent and stick it somewhere safe. Then move/delete your render files, analysis files, proxy files, everything but the original media out of your event folder.
Clear all of your events and projects out of your Final Cut Projects and Events folders so only that event will show up when you launch FCPX. Open up FCPX. If your event shows, then all is not lost and you should be able to recovery cleanly from there.
Then go to to the FCPX feature request page and tell apple to give us our auto save fault back dammit.

When you open it in the timeline, are you doing that by right clicking and selecting open in timeline, or are you dropping it in a project down below? Because my first guess is you don’t have the video tracks active. Feel free to post a screen grab, might be easier to figure out what’s going on.

I haven’t seen a multiclip fail yet, andit handles mixed resolutions and formats fine.
When you right click the multicam clip you just created in the event browser and select open in timeline, what do you see? Are there tracks for each camera? Do you see any clips in there?

Your settings look good and mpeg streamclip can get the job done.
One thing neither MPEG streamclip nor FCPX’s share to youtube doesn’t do is give you the option for fast start and compressed header. Compressor does.

If I get what the OP was asking—that is ONLY using the keyboard to enter slide mode I have not found a way to do it.
Exactly. I’ve been stumped on this one for awhile, I just can’t find a way to get to that special trim selection mode without a click. I’ll submit a feature request, thanks for the replies!
