February 24, 2009 at 8:37 pm in reply to: AE doesn’t see my openGL video card…

Thanks for your responses. I really appreciate it.

The problem is that it says in AE (in preferences) that no compatible openGL card can be found. This is so even with no comps at all, just a blank project, as well as in projects with lots of comps and effects. And I do know that there are lots of problems with AE and openGL, but I am concerned that this may be a symptom of something worse, since a couple weeks ago, AE was able to see and use my video card. And I do have the latest drivers.

Also, I have started having sound problems as well. When I first open a project and start working, and I am working with comps that have sound, at first the RAM previews are fine (the audio renders immediately), but after maybe 15 minutes or 1/2 hour of working, the RAM previews bog down (if they have any audio) and when I click “RAM Preview”, AE just sits there for several minutes before the progress bar for the RAM Preview begins to move in the timeline. But if I disable sound in RAM Preview, then the problem ceases. And if I close AE and re-open it, the problem is gone, and RAM Previews work well again (with sound), but then again, in about 15 minutes to 1/2 an hour, the same problem is back…

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I have two major projects I am working on right now and it’s deadline fever!

PPSS: New rendering error (well, variety is nice…) Instead of runtime errors or “AE has to close” or having AE just disappear, now, when I try rendering a comp from this project, I got: “After Effects AEGP Plugin Tiffio: Error reading TIFF data (5027::12)”

But I wasn’t rendering TIFFs. The project contains a number of PNG sequences, and I am trying to render out as another PNG sequence. :o\

Is there anyone out there who is using AE as part of the CS3 Production Premium package (on a dual quad PC) that is finding success?

Update: I re-installed PS and I still get a message that says: “This application has failed to start because WINTAB32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.”

I tried that with Roxio Creator 8, but when I click on the disk image, it doesn’t start installing the software, it just opens Creator 8. Am I doing something wrong? Would it work if I created a DVD-video folder instead? I thought it was possible to create a DVD-video folder with Creator 8, but the only option I see is to create a disk image. What program did you use to create the disk image?

Thanks for the tip. I had heard that mentioned elsewhere. I tried to copy the files to my hard drive, but that didn’t work — but I didn’t do the disk imaging thing. I’ll try that, but I have another question: How does that exactly work? When I clicked on AUTOPLAY for PRODUCTION PREMIUM CS3 (which has four disks) when it was copied to my hard drive, it asked me to insert the DVD. How does it work with disk images? Won’t it do the same thing? Won’t it be looking for the actual DVD’s?
