Do you have Perian installed? If so remove it.

Be sure that you to get the proper frame-rate flags (UB) on the tapes when you make dubs. I got bit by this. I had some dubs made by a 3rd party, and the tapes didn’t the proper flags and that was a problem for all my off speed stuff, etc… Here is part of a response from Gary Adcock:

[JeremyG] “I have a another way, but it involves going back a step.

Use the Perspective > Rotate filter on your UNflipped footage and set it to 180 degrees, then put in the tc reader clip. “

Jeremy – you rule. That works!

Thanks Shane and David as well. Awesome…

[Shane Ross] “OK…I think I have your solution. Open your files in Quicktime. Go to WINDOW>SHOW MOVIE PROPERTIES. Click on the VIDEO track. You will now see FLIP/ROTATE options. Click on the SECOND one…arrow pointing up and down. This will flip the image. Now save the clip. This modifies the SOURCE clip and thus retaining your source TC.

    How about THEM apples?”

I tried that earlier as well. When I bring those clips back (flipped in QT) in FCP those clips are still upside down.

[Shane Ross] “Are you using the TC READER…and on the source clip? Or the TC Generator?”

I’m using the Reader. I get the correct TC but it’s upside down (same result if I nest). The strange thing is that I thought I would be able to export the flipped content and retain the source TC. That would be slow — but I was thinking I would be able to use the (source) TC reader in compressor.

Do I lose the source TC when I render-out the 180 flip?

April 16, 2007 at 11:51 pm in reply to: FCS upgrade cost -What does the COW think?

My first NLE was a Quadra 950 and a Video Vision Studio board. Over the years I bought Avid and Media 100’s. I won’t mention how much I paid for a 32gig high speed disk-array one year (Yikes!).

Like you, I also bought an additional FCP Studio license in January. But I think $500 for this upgrade, with the new Color application, is a steal. If you have to, just purchase the upgrade after you recoup some of your investment. It’s just part of the upgrade cycle — don’t blast Apple. Reality check. The entry point for post-production has plummeted over the years.

Plus, the system you are “stuck with” rocks! Make money, learn to tell stories, create art and be inspired.

[gary adcock] “CT does not need, nor see the flags from the RP188 timecode track, CT only sees frames and fields and should auto since the frame size that it is not SD footage>
The current version of CT is 3.1.2”

    Hi Gary,

Thanks for the follow-up, although I’m fine with the results after rendering in a 24p timeline, I’m curious how to convert this in CT.

I do have CT 3.1.2 – If I just open the clip in CT, the option to reverse telecine is not available (same in FCP). When I try batch “batch reverse telecine” I get the following error: this movie does not have an NTSC frame rate. What step am I missing?

Is there anything wrong with the rendering method I used?

    TIA

When I exported the updated 24p movie from the “viewer” in FCP (as opposed to the timeline), it maintained the source clip time-code.

So what I eventually did in the end was:

Dropped the 59.94 file that was not properly flagged in a 24p timeline and rendered. Double checked that there were no duplicate frames and the audio was in sync. Then I exported that clip from the viewer as a self contained QT file and re-imported.

[gary adcock] “it is not a conform
it is a reverse telecine (and remember that CT defaults to 24.0 not 23.98) “

Cinema tools will not let me reverse telecine the non-flagged 59.94 capture. I get the following error: this movie does not have an NTSC frame rate.

When I just render the 59.94 clip in a 24p DVDPRO HD timeline, it seems to work fine. No duplicate frames and everything is in sync. The only thing I can figure out now is how to export a self contained clip and maintain the “source” time-code. I just want to re-import that clip so I don’t have to render again when I make changes.

    TIA

    Logan

First of all, big apologies for my Varicam typo in my subject.

    Question:

I just tried to conform to 23.98 in Cinema tools and I
