Holy Cow! I tried that before seeing Jeremy’s post, and dragging works when the buttons only give error messages. Amazing. (I’m not usually a drag & drop person.)

Finally got a higher level Apple tech support person to help, and it also turned out that I needed to export my Motion projects as QTs and replace them in the timeline.

My last issue, which I’m taking up with AJA, is the fact that the bit I output has a small horizontal line runnning across the screen.

    Thanks for the help, y’all.

    Peace,
    Liane

The clip and the sequence have the same settings. Anyway, I tried nesting the clip in a new sequence (with the Easy Setup settings). Still no good. The clip doesn’t seem to require rendering, either.

Ran the AJA conflict catcher — there are no other video drivers. Tried again to uninstall and reinstall the AJA drivers. The uninstaller crashed and disappeared, but re-installation seemed to complete except for the bad restart.

Thanks for hanging in with me on this. I’m going to try under a different user.

    Peace,

I am now officially at my wits’ end! I tried the Easy Setup as you all suggested. I also trashed prefs and reinstalled the Kona driver, which BTW never gave me a clean restart, only the jet-engine takeoff failed restart.

The error message I get when I try to preview my Edit to Tape is this:
“Incompatible compression settings. You may have attempted to output a clip with compression settings that do not match the current output settings. Try nesting the clip in a sequence with the correct settings.”

So I set the Easy Setup, make a NEW sequence (which should be correct compression settings to go with everything else, right?!), paste the clip into the new sequence, go to Edit to Tape, and get the same error message above!

I’m about to repair permissions, shut down everything for 10 minutes and other brushing and flossing. What else could be wrong?

    Peace,

I can’t vouch for it, but I just stumbled across this FREE app called The Collector, which “zips up Motion projects and their media.” It’s on the Motion Smarts download page: <https://www.motionsmarts.com/downloads.html>

Motion 3 has a Collect Media function.

I told them we’d tweak the sequence preset so that it will work. But being unable to play clips in the Viewer was a major part of the problem. Does the sequence preset affect this?

Meanwhile, clients tested on a G5 system, running the data drive into a FW 800 port. That works for viewing in the viewer. Could it be just that they were underpowered for DV50 playback? (Original system G4 dual 1 Ghz, 1Gb RAM.)

July 26, 2006 at 6:44 pm in reply to: Motion truncating audio

It’s not the Windows Media step that’s giving me problems, it’s the export from Motion (animation codec QT 1280×768 square pixels 30 fps). Bringing it back into FCP DOES add lots more time because even having a sequence preset to those same dimensions requires a lot of time to export back out. It’s not a size FCP likes, but I have to live with it. I think the better solution might be to marry the audio and video in QT pro.

But this is all workaround-ville. Does anyone know why Motion won’t just export the whole audio track?

Inexplicably, this problem seems resolved. I went back to the fact that this occurred after updating dvMatte Blast from demo to full version. I deleted the plug-in and re-installed it. That didn’t fix everything immediately, but when I restarted FCP today, the embedded sequences were as they should be. Hooray.

Lesson: delete the demo version of this plug-in before installing the paid version. Then enjoy!

More info: this wasn’t a problem with the DVMatte Blast demo. That’s the one variable that changed.
