    October 18, 2006 at 3:50 am in reply to: vegas 7 – no sony audio plugins / mpeg/ac3 dll’s

    hi edward,

thanks for the quick reply, most appreciated….

well, i don’t know about interconnectivity, but i got the same error when i loaded a project into 6. checked and there’s no ‘sony’ listed plugins under sony (audio), just a collection of fx’s (which show they’re sony when opened)? since i can use these in projects in both – well what the hell?

    still wondering though….

    thanks

September 9, 2006 at 12:46 pm in reply to: 20 min avi – best format for web?

    thanks fuddam,

posted this on sony’s site as well, and here’s my response to a number of suggestions there:

speaking on behalf of the client (who doesn’t – like most clients – understand the first thing about video and the web), i am assuming that downloading time is not a major factor, he reckons everyone has fast adsl or better. we know that isn’t true, but….

i would like the following; half screen size, as small a download as possible, and of course, at the best possible quality. the subject matter is a talking head interspersed with ‘ken burns’ style tracking over paintings – so no real fast action, but plenty of slow horizontal / vertical movement. original is pal dv.

have access to most forms of encoding, just don’t know which to go with.

jonathan, i read with interest your opinion re mp4, but i am worried about general playback on various ‘older’ computers, don’t give a toss about mac’s (sorry, i even own a couple, but for the demographics they don’t rate…), so am hesitant.

can any one point me to file size comparisons?

i stand corrected – but then again, i rate star wars along with macdonalds, late night adverts, and the rest of the mindless drivel.

my mentors always said – if you have to use an effect, you either don’t know how to write a script, or you’ve got nothing to say…. then again, eye candy does keep the dumbed downs amused…

i doubt any feature FILM has actually been edited on vegas, nor any other NLE (including avid) come to that. they have been off-lined, assembled, cut, whathaveyou, on them, and the results then negmatched to produce the final resulting FILM.

sfx are created in software, but transferred to film eventually. the question is rather; has vegas been used in a feature, to which the answer is probably numerous times. then again, so have many other nle’s (notably avid credits).

has a feature been edited on vegas, i’m sure the answer is yes, but the resultant film (transferred from dv to film) always looks like it.

having edited feature film many years ago, it was done on nle’s that today look about equal to the job as a palm pilot would be! but my editing was simply cut to cut, as is most feature film work. sfx, is a whole seperate ball game. as is audio, etc., when was the last time you saw a page turn, cheesy cross fx in a feature?

    hi chris….

    first, i will download the codec pack – not that i’m often confronted with material that causes me problems anymore, thank goodness ;-}

i have adjusted the monitors to as colse as posible via nivida ctl panel – it does a good job, but the truth is i’m simply lazy, just want to turn ’em on and have them match without fiddling around (i have other things to fiddle with that are more entertaining :-)), and, well, it’s not mission critical, it’s me just being anal…

and i will call in and drag you out for coffee when i’m next in town. unfortunately, i get a headache at the pacific highway turn off and can become quite antisocial – but not as bad as some of the sydney drivers nowadays…
