have 2 X 17″ samaung lcd monitor running off a nivida fx5200 (or
    something like that).

they’re both analogue, but one is fed from monitor out on the card
(15pin plug), the other is fed via a digital monitor out on the same
card – via a changeover plug to analogue.

works a treat – no problems but,

the digital monitor (and yes, everything is defaulted on screens and
card, and i’ve swapped monitors around as well, just to check), is
    slightly ‘warmer’ in colour.

no big deal, but using ps over 2 monitors means if i have the same pic
in both, the digital is warmer, which is a bit of a pity cause it makes
colour grading (on a nice big pic) neigh on impossible. ditto designing
    graphics for tv….

anyway, anyone know if getting a card with 2 X analogue outs will solve
    my dilemma?

I suspect that your analog conversion is what’s messed up. Swapping the displays probably confirmed that. You can either get a two-headed card or another card identical to the one you already have, or even any other video card. The two-headed card is the best because it consumes less power than two cards and you would probably be getting it in AGP, which there is usually only one AGP slot on the motherboard. #2 is a lower-cost solution. It works best if both cards are PCI and identical models because there is only one driver loaded for both cards. The last option usually works but you risk getting driver conflict.

Windows XP will run as many monitors as you can plug cards into your PC. I am so used to editing on a dual-CRT setup that when I am in the field using a laptop, I feel terribly claustrophobic.

Been down the same road. One sytem here has Nvidia dual head and another has a ATI Radeon dual, both had the color diff weirds. This can be corrected by going into graphics card settings. Call me one arvo in the studio when I am in front of the boxes and I can talk you through the adjustments if you are not sure how to do it.

    hi chris….

    first, i will download the codec pack – not that i’m often confronted with material that causes me problems anymore, thank goodness ;-}

i have adjusted the monitors to as colse as posible via nivida ctl panel – it does a good job, but the truth is i’m simply lazy, just want to turn ’em on and have them match without fiddling around (i have other things to fiddle with that are more entertaining :-)), and, well, it’s not mission critical, it’s me just being anal…

and i will call in and drag you out for coffee when i’m next in town. unfortunately, i get a headache at the pacific highway turn off and can become quite antisocial – but not as bad as some of the sydney drivers nowadays…

    look after yourself,
