With Vray1.1, at least, you can use regular Cinema materials.
So for editing you can have the animated Cinema material, either on
your subject or maybe just on a dummy object visible to the camera.
Then for rendering use the VrayMat only.

October 19, 2008 at 5:45 pm in reply to: Cinema 4D model to After Effects

Please understand that AE is not a 3D program and as such does not use any kind of
    imported geometry.
The .aec file is just a reference to renders done by Cinema, it’s Camera and any ref. positions
(Lights and/or objects with a externalCompTag on them).

For this to work, CINEMA_AE plugin goes into the AE plugins folder.

Try Shift+F12 to open the CommandManager.
Search “layout” and choose “Default Layout” or “Reset Layout” and Execute.

I’m afraid SteadyCAMFREE (teh former SteadyCAMPROv2 that Adam is refering to)
    is not available anymore.
You can check out CSTools by C.Smith that is a collection of xpresso setups
    including Camera stuff.

I’ve made a short tut now how to.
The only error is that I say 6 instead of 3 seconds, but the principle is there.

I f I understand your project correct, what you want is the “Free” (donation posible)
RollIt plugin by eggtion. It can use the geometry of an object to make it roll on any
    surface.

March 27, 2008 at 8:28 pm in reply to: QTVR Object

As far as I can tell, the internal QTVR solutions (Object and panorama) in Cinema does
    not NET render.
You need to setup a regular camera doing the flyaround rendering to picts.
The only solution I know of authoring it is VR Works.

NOTE The last time I checked, a couple of days ago VRWorks is not yet Leopard/Vista64
compatible. Hopefully soon, I only got one TigerMachine left in the studio.

If you need a basic QTVR setup you can try SteadyQTVR from my site.

To the best of my knowledge, no. Cinema always render “everything”.

Try copy your scene , delete all lights and replace all mats with a pure luminance mat.
You’ll have to keep any semitransparant mats thou.

February 22, 2008 at 9:21 pm in reply to: looping cloth

No, I don’t think getting cloth to loop is possible per se.
Either try using several flagdeformers (sans turbulence that doesn’t loop) in combo with loopable noise driving a DisplaceDeformer (incl in MoGraphModule).
The FlagDeformer loops at value”10″ equals 1 second.

Or, by all means, use Cloth since it is, as you saw, does look good/real.
Your option is, and I’ve done very convincing looped Cloth flags this way, to do the
disolve trick -on the geometry-, not the rendered result.

Bake your cloth (using Capuccino or possible PointCasheTag) at , at least the double length
    of you final result.
Then copy your baked result, swap the front end with the ending part (just as you would
    do in ei AE.)
Add a PoseMixTag to a “dead” copy of your flag object (not animated but the same geometry)
Now you can disolve the animated flags geometry. Since it is no-destructive you can
move the disolve till you find the best spot as well as make several versions using the same
setup for slightly different results (All flags doesn’t look exactly the same).

As mentioned above, It is solely a Photoshop issue. Cinema only uses whats there.
I seldom have problems using Multiplied apha out of PS but when it gets critical
straight alpha must be used. Problem is, PS (CS 1 at least that I run) doesn’t make straight alphas out of the box.

For making multiplied alpha in PS:
    Make your art.
Make a selection of the emty area.
    Create a new channel(alpha)
Invert selection and cut the alpha layer.
Create a new -black- layer under your art.
    Flatten the picture.
    Save and use in Cinema.

    For Straight alpha in PS.
    Go to:
    https://formfilms.com -> Downloads
and get the “straight_no_ice” action script.
Run the script directly on your art layer.
(I think it by defalult makes a tiff, but I’ve changed to .psd in the action script myself).

In both cases, select the alfa layer in the alpha channel settings in Cinema.

    Cheers
    Lennart
