You can speed the clip up in the middle of a timeline, but you cannot slow it down. It’s a known issue, and a pain. One workaround is to drag the clip up a track, make your adjustment, and take it back down.

The error message pops up because FC cannot lengthen the clip if there is another right behind it in the timeline.

Have you accidentally placed an out point on your timeline?

The compression forum has what you need. Search “YouTube” and you’ll find plenty of advice.

The short version is YouTube runs your videos through their own compression software. It can be trial and error to get the best results.

This should help you out. Long story short, Color will work better, but FCP can handle it. You’ll just need to use a garbage matte.

Take your footage with the mask, move it up to your V2 track. Go to your video generator bin, shape, and drop a square onto the V1 track. Make it white and large enough to fill the screen.

  • Also, if you upload a large file (close to the 1 gig limit) it will take quite a while for the “Watch in HQ” option to show up. Give it at least a day.

Experiment some more, trying to get the highest bitrate possible while keeping the file size under 1 gig.
