Figured it out. The sequence I was working with was made in 5.0
I was generating the list from 5.5
once I cut the clip into a new seq in 5.5 all the columns came up.

    Thanks Michael,
I have been looking into Filmscribe and the XML output is very helpful.

However I cant seem to get all the columns in the bin to go into the XML. Only some custom columns appear in the xml.
    The help file says

The XML template produces a file that includes all the information about the list: it shows you every column heading and every custom column.

Yet I only get 6 custom name columns when there are many more.
Do you know why this might be?

Basically you have summed it up Michael. Cutting with a 1 track mix makes it much easier for an editor to work, some insist on this, alot dont. Our recordist had only a 4 track in his budget and to do so would mean he has to work with 3 tracks and the 4th is reserved for our mix, something he was not prepared to do. In the end I did come up with a few work arounds only to find out they found money in the budget for an 8 track recorder and its now sorted. FYI if you are interested in boring tech talk read on , if not, go frolic in the sun,
I used quicktime pro to make a mono mix. i imported the recordist bwav into the Avid then deleted the media. I unlinked the clips and batch import to the Quicktime mono mix. now I have a clip with the meta data from the recordist that has mono sound. I would then have synched up A1 with picture. When locked off I would unlinked again and batch imported back to the sound recordist audio.
For delivery I would have had to checker board the editors cut and add in the other 3 tracks of audio into the cut for the sound post guys(something that would have happened anyway).
Nb there must be plenty of ways to automate the quicktime pro mixdown part.

I may have to transfer the days rushes via the web and so the difference in size of the data makes a significant difference to the transfer time.
(ps sorry about the first question, ignore it!)
    thanks for your response.

  • Thanks for the info.
I did try it on the latest update of avid and the bug was still there.
I am a little confused about what an AMA is. do you know?
I will try the work around and see how it goes.
    Thanks again

  • thanks for the link and info, I will update and see how that goes.
    cheers

my workflow is red rushes> qt wrappers and ALE> Avid so I am importing into Avid.
thanks anyway I have found it.
in older versions it is the “Maintain and Resize” check box
in versions 3 and on its now “resize image to fit format raster” check box in the options of an import.
