December 5, 2011 at 8:45 pm in reply to: Compressor 4 (Not Responding) everytime I drag setting to a jobI have the exact same snafu as the OP. There doesn’t appear to be any mention of this in the FCPX Techniques forum. Anyway, I use Export Movie (H.264) when Compressor screws up.

There probably won’t be any big jobs in FCPX for a while. However, I surmise some “small” or Kickstarter-funded FCPX gigs might appear on the horizon. Nevertheless, the pay will probably be too small to incite any interest among those on this thread.

Interesting thread. I think in the pre-internet days we (many? most? some?) were always fussy complainers but had nowhere to vent except for the poor souls who tolerated our presence. Now we have an outlet. Other than that, nothing has changed. We always hated everything.
To the OP, thanks for bringing this up.

It’s disgusting because AD should offer a rebate to people who paid big for PEFCP since June. Maybe the company is just waiting for the uprising. Then again, maybe nobody will complain.
Like I say…patience in this industry. Patience that things will turn around and come to fruition. Otherwise, have the company pay into obsolescence.

I haven’t read any angry responses here from people who paid $500 for AD. Perhaps they are all getting s**tfaced at a local pub! It’s disgusting what AD did, but c’est la vie for those who needed OMF in June.
For the next 30 days I will test drive FCPX for free and export to Pro Tools, courtesy of AD. This is what I’ve wanted to do since June, but lurked in the wings. Patience has its virtues.

YES YES YES! I will give FCPX a try! YES YES YES!!!! Pro Tools!!!
pity those who bought PEFCP for $500…..

Thanks. It seems FCPX is getting worse by the day. What’s next, Adobe gobbles up Boris?

October 3, 2011 at 8:26 pm in reply to: A documentary about FCPX’s target audience and how they’re disrupting the creative professionI am not concerned at all about people having access to tools. Firstly, it’s not the tools that make the product…it’s the people. It’s always been like that. Conversely, people think because they have the same tools pros have they too will become pro. Not true at all. In fact, the highly visible pros who promote products are paid moles for their gear sponsors.
Secondly, I worked at an mp3 music site during the mp3 DIY heyday. We actively solicited submissions from indie artists. Most music was really horrible. People were thinking that because they have the tools and the distribution, they can be a musician. Not true, and most of those wannabees have left the business and closed up shop, even the good musicians.
Hence, I think when people discover that it takes a lot of work to produce a good, marketable film, they will abandon the attempt. I know enthusiastic filmmakers with all the latest gear who are already leaving the business. It’s too much effort with no revenue and gets in the way of their day job.
Perseverance, commitment, and investment with little monetary reward are key, and you can’t buy any of this stuff on eBay.
