‘Just waiting for X2Pro to be “available end of February” (aren’t we here already?). Then can export AAF to Logic, Pro Tools, etc. (A.Duck is dead!) FCS/FCPX that I use are not good for audio. The only NLE I found decent at audio was Vegas. Why? It’s the only NLE AFAIK that was a multitrack audio sequencer first, then added video later to become an NLE. I’m not PC-based, so I don’t use Vegas.

The latest rumor as of this second is that Ivy quad will not be delayed. Many over here (https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1326993) want to see new iMac and MBP releases in April.

stay tuned….updates in a few seconds

The latest rumor is that Ivy is delayed until September because Intel wants to sell its remaining Sandy inventory. September? And that’s the same time Mountain Lion is slated for public release. Well, that’s seven months away at the earliest. That’s a lot of time to sit on an old computer trying to churn video at a snail’s pace. For a hobbyist, fine.

There’s always a “new release around the corner” according to rumors. Conversely, the same rumor sites say there are delays. But I think there’s a good chance there will be new releases across the entire computer line within a year. Thus, if you buy something new now that can aid in profitability, also consider its resale value within the next year while it’s still under warranty. I’m taking such an approach with the MacBook Pro, where rumors fly like bats. I’ll probably buy the best I can afford in case I utlimately prefer to keep it.

Now that Apple releases a new OS every year or sooner, it seems insane to upgrade just because Cook has something new on the plate. It’s his job to feed the consumer mob with new goods to fill his belly with cash. It’s our job to make movies, not appease Cook.

Automatic Duck is apparently DOA with FCP 10.0.3. It was OK for the few months that it worked. ‘Just gotta wait for X2Pro.

Well, that video’s gone (perhaps temporarily), but it’s real tough to sync audio without seeing the waveforms, as FCPX does with its Synchronize Clips command. PluralEyes in FCP7 worked pretty well and if it’s similar in FCPX, so much the better.

I find in FCPX it’s easier to slate and manually align, as long as the material isn’t too complex.

‘Seems to me Apple is in the process of dumbdowning Logic Pro. Perhaps the rumors of GarageBand Pro are correct. My synopsis is 1) Logic Pro reached its pinnacle several years ago when it was almost as good as Pro Tools, and 2) the reaction from the audio industry to GBPro won’t be a violent as FCPX, since most people use Pro Tools, many have never touched Logic, and those who touched Logic likely know other DAWs, especially Pro Tools, Pro Tools 11 will again cement its reign, and whatever is #2 will have a large gap.

Apple, take Logic Pro and shove it up your aiff…….

  • I wonder how many devices Thunderbolt can really hold.

    thunderbolt display
    1. 3 usb ports
    2. firewire 800 port
    3. ethernet

    4. thunderbolt port
    a. magma ExpressBox 3T
    I. 3 pci cards
II. “Daisy chain up to 6 Thunderbolt devices” (Magma’s claim)

thunderbolt overload? this is where apple wants to put pro systems? on an imac or laptop? from one port?

  • [Craig Seeman] “Would Apple be daring enough to drop Firewire?”

I think so, forcing the procurement of a Thunderbolt display or hub. It will save space inside a laptop.
