Was it something I said (or didn’t say)?

Just trying to get some info on the best way to use SD footage in my HD project.
Maybe no replies b/c I didn’t mention what kind of Avid I’m working on; It’s an Adrenaline. Or maybe b/c I didn’t mention what resolution; DNxHD 220. Or maybe I’m just an idiot and no one wants to talk to me (boo hoo).

Anyway, I’ll try to sum up my question again. Is it better to capture SD footage at 1:1 and use “transcode” to up-convert to 1080i 59.94 OR should I do a machine to machine upconvert (the DVCPROHD deck I have can do this) then capture? What method produces the best converted image?

I was told that if you do transcode, it doesn’t matter if you capture at 2:1 or 1:1, the image quality will be the same. How can this be?

    Please advise.

There’s probably more than one way to do this, but I would just copy the omfi folder from one computer on to the other. Use the media tool to scan the drive w/ the transferred folder on it and drag the clips into a bin (or bins). Of course, if you have a copy of the project, the clips will re-link automatically when you launch.

    That makes sense.

    Thanks Michael.

Have you installed the P2 driver (cd included w/ camera) in to your Mac? I don’t think it can recognize the card properly w/o it.

Also, I’ve experience those green dots too, but it turnded out to be the hard drive (Medea Raid). Once I switched to a GRAID, they went away.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Shane.

My HVX-200 is set to shoot 720p/24p. I’m importing to FCP 5.1 using “Import/Panasonic p2”.

    Thanks Gary!

After much investigation, I’ve decided to go the 720/24p route.

The HVX-200 is set to shoot 720/24p, my sequence is set w/ Aja Kona LH: 720p 23.98 DVC Pro HD and I’ll be outputting the sequence to the Panasonic D5 3700B deck (expensive rental!).

I’m a little nervous about the output up-convert to 1080p 23.98 as I’m not quite sure what the settings should be in FCP 5.1 (A/V Settings/ Video Playback) and the D5 to do this.

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

” I would say do the 1080i/24PA and drop the extra frames on import to FCP”

Thanks for the helpful response, Jan.

Could you please tell me how to “drop the extra frames on import”. Is there a setting somwhere? Is this a FCP 5.1 option only?
It’s very likely I’m looking right at it and just missing it.

    Anyway, thanks again!
