It’s great to have such detailed and thoughtful advice. I can’t tell you this minute what I’m going to do but I will re-read everything in this thread, the AJA marketing info, and probably add in a direct contact with AJA. All taken together, how can I go wrong? (Yeah, I know….there are a million ways. ha!)

    Thanks, guys.

Well, that’s very valuable information. Thank you. I guess I just misunderstood the Kona 3 marketing langage: “KONA 3

    Hi Jerry,

My DVCAM deck has unbalanced audio but I rarely use those ins and outs. I just use firewire for video/audio and control.

I think you’re right that the AVA can handle analog component video and balanced audio going out of the beta deck. As for mastering back to the beta deck, I believe the Kona 3 card can deliver both analog component video and balanced audio, as well as deck control. Does that sound right to you?

Oh. Well, I have a DVCAM deck as well as the beta deck. I will use the two displays that I now have…an Apple Cinema Display and a standard (DVI?) monitor…plus a video monitor. I think I’m covered with the Kona 3 card, the AVA, and the ATI Radeon X1900XT.

    Look OK?

    Thanks Matt & Jeremy,

I appreciate you sharing the value of your experience. I looks like you are right: The AVA can work as an interface between my Betacam deck and the Kona 3 card, and the Kona 3 can deliver an SD component signal back to the deck. So that would cover me both ways.

Jeremy, you asked what else I have to tie into my system. Actually, I have just taken delivery of the Octocore and I

Thanks Arnie. Do you think the image on the Panasonic will be as good as the image on the Apple Cinema Display? (Again…I know I’m not talking about true broadcast quality stuff here.)

Shane, I read your review on the Matrox-to-ACD and am very interested in choosing that as an affordable monitoring solution for the new HD edit system that I’m building. As part of that system I have been leaning toward the Kona 3 card for capture. If I go with the Matrox-ACD solution for monitoring, would the Matrox be connected to the Kona card or directly to the computer? Does this combination look reasonable to you?

Thanks very much for your time.
