So is the null moving in sync with the zit? Did you set the null layer as the target track?

    Hi Chris:
No, the null is not moving. I am unable to set the null as the Motion Source in the Tracker Controls window. In that windows Motion Source pulldown, three items are lited: The solid, the null and the (pardon the bluntness) ZitFace layer. But the null and the solid are grayed out and cannot be selected. Is this the heart of my problem?

One other note which might be important: After I copy the frame-by-frame positions from the tracker and attempt to past those keyframes into the null layer (with the position parameter selected), the pasted data do not attach to the position parameter. Instead, the paste creates a new “Motion Tracker” for that layer and the pasted data resides there. I can’t get it to affect position.

Hmmmmm…there’s some operator error here. If you know the error or my ways and have the patience to stick with me on this, my thanks to you.

By the way, one VERY important piece of information that I left out earlier: The project I am working on has Properties set to 24p because that’s how the rest of the footage was shot. Capturing this new footage into that project was just an experiment and I’m not surprised that it has problems. My hope now is to capture it in a different instance of Vegas (with what Properties?) and then export it as 24p 2-3-3-2 pulldown so that I can import it into the main project. That has worked for me in the past with non-24p footage being used in a 24p project. But so far I haven’t had success at capturing and viewing this material in an instance of Vegas.

    Hi Peter:

    Thanks for taking the time.

Was the footage HDV, DVCam or DV?
    It is DV.

How did you capture – straight from the Z1?
No, I brought the tapes to the studio and capture from my Sony DSR-20 deck.

Did you use Cineform software – and convert to an intermediate avi?
I did not use Cineform. (When I start doing HD, I will.)

BTW, I checked to make sure the studdering was really there by creating a quick DVD, which is my final delivery medium on this project. It’s there.

Correction to my post, above: a typo. I have Vegas 4; not 5.

Thanks for the suggestions! This gives me the reason/opportunity to try out some things in AE that I hadn’t tried before.
