Hi Nate,
That sounds like a success. Good on ya’ (as the Aussies say).
Would you mind posting here again to list the components you used? And if you have any specs on the performance you’re getting I’d be really interested in that.
Thanks.

Thanks very much to all on this. It won’t be long before I have everything assembled and will be too busy editing to clutter the forum with specific config questions (though I hope other readers benefit from the discussion.)
I’m going to contact Ron and appreciate the referral.

{Arnie Schlissel}: “OK, Lee, just when you thought you might find some clarity, I hope I’m not going to muddy up the waters for you.”
Ha! In my current state of many browser tabs open to mutiple vendors, and printouts surrounding my keyboard, I got a kick out of that comment.
No, I don’t expect a group of experienced professionals always to agree. All of your input is valuable — and valued by me.
I have three days to make a decision — to get everything purchased in the 2007 tax year. I’m almost there! Thanks for all your help.

Hi Matt,
I’m afraid I don’t know who Ron is. I’d appreciate more info about that.
Also, what were the main reasons that you selected this array? I’m about to make my purchase and I’m wavering between three or four different makes/models.
Thanks.

I don’t have those specs in my head but I have read some speed reports here in the past. My configuration quite simply is based on what other experienced FCP people on this forum have been using successfully. (Obviously, my combination choice is just one such configuration.)

Thank you, David. Your experience will guide me in the questions I ask the vendors. Very sorry about your experience with that power connectors! Sharing that unfortunate story, though, certainly helps the rest of us.
Cheers,

Thnx Lee, you are too kind...
No…compliment deserved! And thanks for the new information.

Thanks again Jeremy. It looks to me now as though the IO HD would give me everything except the ability to capture uncompressed HD. I want to have that ability in the system. For that reason and the fact that the Kona 3 is so tried-and-tested, I think I will stick with it.
I appreciate your suggestion. It’s good to make me think!

Hi Jeremy,
I don’t have the Kona 3 yet. I had looked at the IO-HD only briefly and I guess I was a bit put off by the portable form factor. I’m used to rack mount or at least shelf mount in the studio. But it certainly does appear to do everything I need.Do you use this? I haven’t yet figured out what my configuration would be. Is Firewire a good enough protocol to get everything to and from the computer as well as if I had a Kona 3 installed? I guess I would monitor my HD image (on a Panasonic plasma) via the HDMI out? And I guess another “overall” question is whether you think I lose any functionality over the Kona 3/HD 10AVA combination that I had planned on.
Sorry for the list of questions. But here I am, on the verge on making purchases before the end of the year, and your (good) question causes a lot of potential re-thinking.
