No ability to easily export bins was a problem with Media100 series as well. You actually had to select all items in the bin, copy and paste into a text editor. Then you could import as a tab delimited file into Excel for further massaging. When I migrated to Final Cut Pro I did exactly as Kim suggested. Drag the desired clips to a timeline and export a CMX edl.

I completely forgot to mention that you will need a network connection between your computer and the RAID in order to control via RAID Admin (Cat 5 with RJ45 connectors). There is a network port on both of the RAID’s Fiber controllers and it doesn’t matter which one you connect to. You might need a router or switch if you don’t have any additional network ports on your G-5. That’s why your RAID does not show up in RAID Admin when you selected Add System. Sorry about the confusion.

I always use the RAID Admin application to start and shutdown my XServe RAID. Rather than pulling the plug try, restarting your Mac and then using the shutdown feature. Open RAID Admin. If your RAID does not show up in the window choose Add system. Your RAID should show up. The default monitoring password is in you documentation. If you can’t find it e-mail me and I let you know what it is. Once your RAID appears in the monitoring window, right or CMD click on it and choose power on. Before you shutdown your Mac choose power off. I hope this is helpful.

If you get a used or new old stock G-5 I would get one of the later models with the PCI Express slots. Otherwise you stuck with legacy PCI-X which is fast becoming legacy technology. I suspect that I’ll be replacing my 2.0 G-5 in the next year or so.

We just acquired a Mac Pro tower with four internal 500 GB drives. Three are striped as a RAID and there’s no problem capturing 8 or 10-bit uncompressed via our Kona LHe. Not only is it fast enough, but quiet as well.

I also switched two years ago from version 7.x. I really like using FCP and can do much more in the program. Two M100 features I miss are mixing resolutions on the timeline and M100’s excellent media management (especially for uprez and recapturing). I don’t miss the two video tracks and single graphic track interface (now greatly improved in the latest M100 version).
