    Jeremy,

I believe your advice is sound. It was a shot in the proverbial dark but I felt worth asking as I have a bunch of cores that I felt could be exploited to some good.

Thank you though, for spending the time answering this question for me. I am very grateful.

    Regards,

    Lawrence

    Jeremy,

I’m using a drobo connected via firewire; which may or may not be the optimum solution, but it’s the one I have at hand.

I will also go on record as saying that I am sure that if I use this wirelessly, then hell would possibly freeze over faster?

So a Drobo it is, Jeremy and I await your muffled and polite chuckles and advice 😉

    Regards,

    Lawrence

The ‘main’ machine is a 2010 macpro along with a new MacBook pro. Both running Lion.

    Kevin,
You are right about the memory issue and where it is apparently stemming from. The strange or rather relieving thing is that after about 3 hours, the memory requirements shrink back dramatically and then start climbing again, ever so slowly.

It’s what we live with, I suppose and maybe it’s time to indulge my memory again?

I’ve tried the purge terminal input but like you I’m not overly comfortable with the finality of it (even though I worked for a software house for a decade) I still have my reservations.

    Tim,

Thanks for the offer of help and now I get chance to spew out my proverbial gordian knot. (I believe I’m ‘up the Khyber without a paddle at the moment)

I had finished one section of a job and then moved (fateful word?) the events and project folders to their own Final Cut Events Archive and Final Cut Projects Archive, respectively. This was ‘done’ on good advice and I’m pleased to say it worked – one way.
When I came back to ‘restore’ the media, that’s when all hell broke loose. I have the wonderful red with exclamation mark in it and nothing I seem to do cures the ill. I’ve tried reimporting the proress422HQ raw footage – to no avail. I’ve copied the project back into its respective Final Cut folders and nada. I’ve drag’n’dropped the raw stuff to every folder mankind has known or pondered to no avail. I’ve ‘re’ imported the media and ….nothing and now I’m looking at a long long weekend through my own, admitted, stupidity.

Should I have duplicated the project to a backup drive? I believe so and that’s what I’ve been doing since. But I’m not sure they will work ‘nicely’ when or if I need the media again – why DO clients keep changing their minds????

if specs are of interest: MacPro w/ 10.7.2
    Memory: 17Gig
    Drive: 3x 2TB +1 SSD
    FCPX + Compressor 4
    Beverage: Earl Grey tea
    Dress sense: debatable (apparently)
    Operator: feeling-like-a- tosser-at-the-moment mood

    Lawrence

  • Have you tried Option+mouse to duplicate them?
Not sure if there is any ‘overhead’ by doing this but it’s an option – or is it :)?
