May 16, 2007 at 7:51 pm in reply to: NEED ADVICE ON BUYING NEW USB ENCLOSURE!!!

If you really want to carry around, consider
to choose a 2.5 enclosure and a notebook HDD.
This will have the advantage that you don’t need
an external power supply for your drive (it is
    powered over USB).

Disadvantage is that you get about a half capacity
    for the same prise.

    Currently I’m using a Datalux 2.5″ with a 100G samsung
    notebook hdd.

No heating, no fan, stable, reliable thing.

For an external 3.5″ HDD I use a Coolink enclosure,
it’s without fan, I have a 400G maxtor in it.
The coolink (really cheap thing) enclosure works for
me more than a year, it contains the samsung 400G
since a month, it had a 160G maxtor before
(that was a bit warm – but worked for a while ;).
The maxtor took his new place in my sons machine
    as a secondary drive.

May 15, 2007 at 8:16 pm in reply to: re-joining clips after split?

You have the option to group them.
    (They move together)

    OR

Delete one of the clips and
resize the other to the original size.

    Hope I could help.

May 15, 2007 at 4:35 am in reply to: Security Software Recomendations

    Hi,

I’m using Kerio personal firewall, and NOD32.
My “editing machine” is my machine, that I use
    for other tasks as well.

No problems so far, I can recommend both kerio
    and nod32.

One thing I didn’t read here -may be missed-:
don’t use your machine with admin rights.
Use an admin logon only for installing/removing programs.

    Adaware was mentioned.
I have no good experiences with it.
Sometimes I get machines to “heal”
from my friends, with lots of trojans
    and rootkits.

Instead of adaware you can use webroot
spysweeper. It sweeps out dozens of
malware of which adaware just don’t know
anything about (that’s why I kicked
    adaware away ;)).

Against rootkits -if you already have some-
    use sophos antirootkit.

For detecting trojans, rootkits good tools
    are “hijackthis”, and rootkitrevealer from
    sysinternals.

    Hope I could help.

May 13, 2007 at 5:57 am in reply to: copy protection for audio CD

    Does not worth anything.
IMHO any investment on copy protection
    is wasted money.
What you can PLAY, you can also COPY.

The most used to copy protect a CD is that it
has a second session, in the first the normal audio
session, and a second garbaged session.
That prevents the CD to be played in computers,
since they try to read all the sessions,
and determine what to do with it.
CD players just do care only for the first session,
and play it if it’s audio.

    But that’s a worthless try
    (see https://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn3020),
since it’s easily defeatable by isobuster, or neros
multimounter (you can tell which session to deal with).

Another question is that copy protection limits fair use too:
a user can’t encode his music into mp3, let’s say to listen to it
while bicycling (that’s a thing I often do).
a user can’t make safety backups.
(I don’t know how this in the usa goes, but the laws in our country
allows to make safety-backup copy for MYSELF, and if I use such a
copy I must have the ORIGINAL (even in a damaged status))

    —-

Macrovision is worthless too, except that it can
prevent to copy VHS tapes from one to other, but
    philips videorecorders equipped with “incredible
    picture chip” regenarate syncron signals,
    thus eliminating macrovision…
    Funny, yes? 😉
That’s my own experience, I captured few of my sons
favourite tales to archive them on DVD.
All those VHS tapes were “protected” by macrovision :))

In addition at Conrad (an eletronic parts distributor in Europe)
you can buy a kit for about $40 called “video image enhancer” that does demacrovision too…
    https://www.conrad.hu/conrad.php?name=Products&cid=VkZaU1ZrMUZPVVZoTTJST1VrWkdOUT09&pid=Vkd0U2NtUXdNVFphTTNCT1ZrZGpPUT09

How much do you pay for macrovisioning your video?
If less than $40 you’re probably OK.

I apologize if I was too exasperating to you…

Virtualdub is OK for converting avi-s.
    Not sure about QT,
but could give a try after installing
    QuickTime Alternative.

Google for them, all those are freware.

    Thanks Ed,
May be this is the only way?

I surely loose some quality doing so.

But I1m extremely courious what can cause such a problem…

    Try particle illusion.
    https://www.wondertouch.com/

    Simple and effective to use.

The built in libraries have some
    smokes.
Download the trial to see if that smoke
    is subtle enough 😉

    Hope I could help.

May 4, 2007 at 5:54 am in reply to: How to I create Karaoke text style?

    Hi,
    and you’re welcome.

Mind that my idea is just one possible solution, there may be
other good approximation of the problem.

    About RT:
Vegas is not designed to be realtime (however preview is almost
realtime in most cases), vegas is an editor.

OK, you have to render that takes some time.
How much time does it take compared to time it takes to input
all the text, and timing the appearence?

I guess a lot more times then then the acutal length of a song…
    😉

So, does it really matter if it’s rendered realtime or not?

    I guess not.

I think the important differences may be in such details as
how easy you can achieve the desired result.
Don’t know edius nor velocityq, so I can’t tell which is better.

But there are also lot’s of titlers used beside vegas, I can imagine one of them could be effective as well.
    Maybe a look around worth…

As always, for a taks choose the tool that fits the best.
    😉

    Hi,
    a simple looking solution:
Create each sentence as graphic in two versions, a standard and a highlited one.
Place the highlited one on top of the other, and mask it out.
Animate the mask so that the highliting is timed properly.

    Hope I could help.
