O’OK that is clear now. Now I usderstand what you are saying with regards to the FCP naming convention. Mike, Mike1, Mike2 and so on.

    Thanks Shane,

Yes I have noticed it. So your telling me the files that are on the P2 card are not the same file names that are given to the qt converted clips in FCP. FCP is generating a 5 digit code for each of the clips that come off the card?

Ya that was importing into FCP but it put the footage into the same Capture Scratch folder but put a 1 after every duplicate item. I would have thought it would have over writen the files. Is if FCP that is giving it the 1 after the name or something with the P2 import function that Panasonic built in in to the importer?

So if I were to shoot a video to go to film I could still shoot it in 24pn under video cam mode, right? it’s if I want to shoot 12fps and stuff like that.

  • Normaly I would agree but monitors were one of the things I was lookign at when I was at NAB. I was supprised since I own a Sony but I would have to say the JVC impressed me more then the Sony did on HD stuff. My next CRT will be the JVC, which will be my first JVC product.

Even Panny had their flat screens up against the Sony flats and the pannys won hands down with all the test they were performing. I starting to think Sony isn’t the company that it use to be and I have always bought Sony from cameras to monitors.

Everyone has their own flavor but before buying something this expensive check them out.

  • I was looking into getting the JVC CRT. I lookled at the Sony and JVC’s at NAB and I thought the JVC’s looked a little better. Normaly I would think Sony would have been the best since I own a Sony SD monitor and they have one of the best reputaions. But you still need to buy the cards for the monitors which puts them in the 4K to 5K range.

CRT monitors are being discontinued from what they say. There is some new ROSE standard that is happening in Eurpoe where no products can have mercury if I understand it right. That is one of the reasons that the DVX-100b came to be.

I can’t imagine not using CRT’s since they look so much better then flat screens. I’ll take a tube over a flat any day.

That is what I have been doing by setting it to DV mode. But since I saw the camera had Audio dubbing ability I thought that I would toss out that question to see if I was missing something.

    Thanks anyways.

Ahhh, ok so there is no way to record only voice to the P2 card. I’ve had the camera about a month now and I haven’t even opened the Mini DV casset area on the camera.

June 13, 2006 at 6:37 pm in reply to: How are you folks backing up the footage?

I though about tape backup and making 2 copies just in case. But I don’t want to spend 50% of a projects time backing them up. I have considered for large jobs an extra cost for another hard drive that the client would pay for and keep for future updates.

At the Panasonic booth I talked to a guy about Blue-Ray Re Writables which are coming out. I think that would be the best way to do it if you buy a drive when they come out. If a disc screws up, re write it. I think they mentioned about $45 per disc which boils down to a $1 a gig give or take.
