Recording audio w/ no video?
Posted by Lars Wikstrom on June 13, 2006 at 6:40 pmCan I do that? Tongiht I need to get some voice overs and my VO person can’t come to the house. I have used the HVX with a small XLR shot gun with great results to do VO’s but it lays the video down with it. Is there a way to only do VO’s with out recording the video?

June 13, 2006 at 7:27 pmI do that by recording to Mini-DV tape… (but never with the camera mic of course)

June 13, 2006 at 7:57 pmAhhh, ok so there is no way to record only voice to the P2 card. I’ve had the camera about a month now and I haven’t even opened the Mini DV casset area on the camera.

June 13, 2006 at 8:07 pmRegardless of whether you use the P2 card or the mini dv tape you are still going to record video. It is a video camera with audio recording capabilities as well. It is not a stand alone audio recorder. If you want to use the P2 card for the VO’s just set the video portion to DV so you can get more recording time.

June 13, 2006 at 9:05 pmThat is what I have been doing by setting it to DV mode. But since I saw the camera had Audio dubbing ability I thought that I would toss out that question to see if I was missing something.
Thanks anyways.

June 13, 2006 at 9:20 pmMaybe you should consider adding a seperate audio recording device to your kit bag. You can get direct to computer recording interfaces for under $500 these days. The HVX can be used as an audio recorder although you’re wasting an incredibly high quality and expensive HD camera in the process.
