My bad! I was not very explicit!
Yes, I do mean creating a new separate piece of media by rendering/exporting a portion of the timeline.
A separate new rendered clip, sometimes called a sub clip. -
Yup, sure enough it was there! I don’t know how I missed that!
Thanks

Couldn’t you make it more difficult so my question seemed somewhat more…..
Thanks! That was easy…and it worked well.Larry

I missed giving some info. The file was giving to us in F4v format and too big for our needs.
I was trying to render smaller .mov files and flv files.
I’m new to Premiere so I don’t know if I set the sequence settings properly.
I read that most players don’t recognize anamorphic so I went back and created a square pixel file at
854×480 and that rendered right as QT mov.The webmaster was on a PC using windows media player and I’m on a Mac Pro.

Thanks Mark! I’m glad I asked. I thought it should be there, but an associate said it could not be done so I never posted this until now.
Very nice!

Great advice!
However, what I ran into was using an Imac with 4 gig of ram and a quad processor as a workstation to review footage and prepare for other editors. With a high speed server the imac bogged down and made it hard to review. Of course it was HiDef footage shot on a Canon XF 305 at full quality. So in my case it wasn’t storage space but I/O, true?
Or perhaps there is another issue? It came into FCP as XDCam although it is native Canon, I believe.
Hmm.

I guess I better jump in and make just a few comments and then I’m done since I don’t want people to waste their time over me.
The only point I was really trying to make is that let’s take a wait and see approach, give Apple the benefit of the doubt, and maybe there is more than what seems to be at first blush.
(I’ve read a few others make comments that everyone is up in arms when they haven’t had time to really test the product. I haven’t tried it yet.)
Apple made a huge mistake not getting into color graphics cards years ago and lost big time. The lost the education market, also.
But they have brought more innovation to the table than most companies, so I want them to succeed in this.
There is one very good thing about all the anger and upset, is that it will put some fire under them! And I agree, they should not forget the professional market. I agree that would be a HUGE mistake!
One final thing. I want the next generation of kids to have great tools. I like the fact that they can afford software and get started young. I’m all for competition. I want the tools to get out of the way and make creation easier. Apple has done that very well, and I hope they succeed with FCP X.
Over and out -
Duh,
I’ve come from another editor that had pans on the entire track so I didn’t think of the obvious. Thanks

Well, that is good to know.
I’ve scoured the help section, the software, and Lynda.com to see how to turn an authored DVD into a template and came up with zero.
I’m not getting it yet!
Thanks
