I’ve used 3 or 4 but prefer Filezilla. I’ve placed a video on youtube.com and video.google.com showing how to use it (I think you can find it on both by searching for “filezilla”)

I’ve read on another vegas forum that pgcEdit.exe can correct the faulty streams created by DVD Architect. Note that faulty streams only occur when you create a DVD that has menus. For more info, go to

    March 4, 2006 at 7:14 pm in reply to: 1394b/firewire 800 or USB RAID-external

Thanks – The networked drives always take a number of seconds to open up while the networking negotiations take place, while I’m twiddling my thumbs. I’ve also found that firewire networks seem to be somewhat unreliable – sometimes they die when I plug in a camera or something.

The RAID definitely speeds up searching for files and some other tasks (I have thousands of files and folders, along with current video projects); that’s why I want RAID. SATA 2-foot long cables work great, but it’s a nuisance to have to swap four plugs. Firewire external RAID should work great, but I can only find very expensive boxes – there may be no better solution than to use long SATA cables from both computers connecting a pair of external RAID drives.

Now that I think of it, I maybe could use a network and put a shortcut link into the startup folder of both computers so that hopefully the network negotiations will take place during the boot process while I’m in the shower. I think I’ll get 2 gigabyte cards and try that. Thanks again.

January 26, 2006 at 7:13 pm in reply to: limit on vegas still photos in a project?

I use lots of still photos, no problem, and I use some that are larger than 10 megapixels. To insert large stills, change them to .PNG format first. I output to .WMV format burned onto CDs at 640×480 (square pixels), and I have no visible loss of quality due to downsampling withing Vegas – I never reduce the size of the image prior to placement into Vegas. However, I’ve read on the forums that those who are outputting DV should downsize first in Photoshop. I’ve also read that it’s a good idea to right-click the photo and chose “reduce flicker” and to apply a .001 gaussian blur.

  • you might try VPN (“Virtual Personal Network” – search for it on Google). It is free software that will allow you to control another PC over a network. I’ve used it to control my laptop in another room over a wi-fi local network in my home, and it works pretty well, albeit a tiny bit sluggish (you can’t watch movies). I never tried Vegas with it, so can’t say. I think you can connect to more than one remote PC by assigning different addresses. I found it very easy to install – about 10 min., including reading just a few paragraphs of instructions. For the price, you might want to give it a try.

If you don’t want to export a bunch of frames for correction and instead would like to grab a frame, work on it, then replace it, do this:

    1. In the preview window, select “best (full)” for the preview quality.
    2. Go to the frame you wish to edit.
    3. Click on the diskette icon in the preview window and save the image to your hard disk.
    4. Clean up that file with Dust and Scratch Removal, and save.
    5. In Vegas, open a new video track (click Insert>Video Track).
    6. Using Windows Explorer (Windows key-E), you can drag’n’drop the newly cleaned image onto the new video track directly above the faulty frame.

In order to be sure that you have positioned it exactly over the faulty frame, twirl the mouse button until the timeline has expanded sufficiently so that you can see the individual frames.

Note: before you drop the cleaned image on the new video track, make sure the “auto-ripple” icon is NOT selected (you can hit Ctrl-L to select/deselect auto-ripple). You can see the auto-ripple icon near the midpoint of the icon toolbar at the top of the vegas window – just pass the mouse over the icons and read the pop-ups to find it.

if you are willing to do a frame-by-frame correction, instead of Photoshop, you’ll have better luck with Polaroid’s free Dust and Scratch Removal https://www.polaroid.com/service/software/poladsr/poladsr.html

September 26, 2005 at 8:20 pm in reply to: Best Web Hosting for Video Files?

As of today, Google is streaming videos that I placed in a much larger window – it appears to be the size that I used when I compressed it using XVID. The image quality also is improved, but a longer wait for buffering is required. You can see a sample that I made at https://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5935564971828404588&q=inspector

my mistake – I couldn’t get the divx codec to work in Vegas; actually, I used xvid, which claims to be compatible with divx
