limit on vegas still photos in a project?
Posted by Unzarjones on January 24, 2006 at 4:46 pmThought I read that somewhere, but couldn’t find it in the search. My project has over 60 and counting. UJ

January 24, 2006 at 4:58 pmHi:
I don’t know of a limit on the number of still photos, but there seems to be a problem with still photos whose dimensions exceed about 1200 by 800 pixels. I have few problems when I keep them below that limit. When they get larger, Vegas hangs and requires restarting.I do a lot of work with still images, so I’m always curious about how other people are doing with their projects. I need images with higher resolution because of pans and zooms.
Could you tell me the approximate dimensions (W x H in pixels) of your photos.
Thanks.

January 25, 2006 at 10:54 amMy Vegas photo montage template is up to about 315 photos. I always batch resize them to 720X480 before sending them to Vegas.
My wedding invitations are resized to 2560X1920 so I can zoom in and pan. Always worked great.

January 25, 2006 at 7:46 pmJames,
I have 120+ photos now, with about a dozen between 1200×800 to 2160×1728. I haven’t done a test render yet, but the preview playback set to best doesn’t give me any problems and is very smooth. Some of these are stacked tracks with motion. I’m using 2 gigs of ram with an AMD 4000 cpu which may or may not be making any difference. UJ -

January 26, 2006 at 7:13 pmI use lots of still photos, no problem, and I use some that are larger than 10 megapixels. To insert large stills, change them to .PNG format first. I output to .WMV format burned onto CDs at 640×480 (square pixels), and I have no visible loss of quality due to downsampling withing Vegas – I never reduce the size of the image prior to placement into Vegas. However, I’ve read on the forums that those who are outputting DV should downsize first in Photoshop. I’ve also read that it’s a good idea to right-click the photo and chose “reduce flicker” and to apply a .001 gaussian blur.
