regarding SVP 13. I have wondered the same thing. In Japanese culture the number 13 has a bad reputation, but so does the number 4 and 9. They didn’t skip those numbers and I bet they won’t skip 13 either. If for no other reason just to lower expectations. lol

regarding SVP 12. They actually added some features that for me were very important. They thumbnail fiasco was more a disaster because it took so long to fix it.

As for now, I can handle any inconvenience that doesn’t cause me to lose work.

I hope I understand your question correctly. When I am building a complex menu DVD on DVDA, I just keep an eye on the lower right hand corner labeled DISK SPACE USED. it will turn yellow as you approach the limit and red when you go over the limit.

I make good use of BitRate Calculator before I render and before I go to DVDA to make sure the sum of my video assets don’t exceed 4GB.

Did you have any previous crashes at any time during your edit? If so, there will be a “restore” file saved with everything up to the time of the crash, at a different location on your PC. This is NOT the .bak file that is stored in the same folder as the .veg file. The restore file is stored in the Vegas temp files folder which is shown in the OPTIONS/PREFERENCES/GENERAL tab on Vegas 12. It will be time stamped and that is the only way of knowing if it is a restore file from your most recent session.

I have used this to save my at least a piece of my project on several occasions in the past. Irony is, if Vegas hadn’t crashed I wouldn’t have had a restore file to fall back on. ha!

I didn’t notice a link to the short and downloadable 2K sample you were referring to. That might be helpful to anyone trying to assist you with this problem. Of course, that may not be for public consumption and that I understand.. but if it is, post the link.

Might be time to move up to Vegas 12 now that some of the bugs have been put to rest.

I have been operating with the 563 build for several days and several sessions. With the exception of a thumbnail issue, (i just posted the details) no other hic ups to report.

While I haven’t been through every conceivable render situation, or import situation.. so far so good.

First thing I noticed after installation was “post to YouTube” dialog under the FILE tab. Was that there before upgrade?

Also fixed with the upgrade was the audio volume envelopes that would mysteriously disappear and reappear.

Most importantly, Vegas doesn’t crash when you try to view thumbnails in the media bin. There are still issues with thumbnails, just not fatal issues.

So at this early stage of working with 563, I’m optimistic. I should be a good build, it took them long enough.

I am also a big fan of ConvertX2DVD, but it isn’t a magic bullet for every project. The menus are beautiful, but hard to customize.

How do you handle BluRay projects with ConvertX?

My solution is to use ConvertX to produce a 25MB DVD project and then take it to Nero to burn to a BD. However, the BluRay will only play on my PC and not my Sony BluRay set top player.

I wish there was a ConvertX made for BluRay burning.

While you can “pre render” these lower thirds to MOVs, it is not likely that will speed up renders significantly. The problem is most likely transparencies or soft drop shadows around your text. This will slow Vegas to a crawl.

However, if your lower thirds are built in multiple layers.. Text over animated banner, with logo.. then perhaps pre rendering them to a single layer might be helpful. Especially if these lower thirds are reused from episode to episode.

What really helps speed this up is to back off the soft fuzzy shadows, and feathered transparencies. Just experimented with a 10 sec ProType Titler lower third. It took 10 sec to render a RAM preview of just plain text. 25 sec with a small transparent drop shadow. and 1:40 with a drop shadow plus a big fat outer glow.

Keep these things in mind when getting creative with lower thirds.

Select all of the contents of this folder, and delete them.

This solved my Vegas 12 crashing which was due to a thumbnails creation problem. Your problem sound similar.
