This may or may not be related to your current problem.

It has been advised to always use default folders when installing Vegas products. ie… C:program files/sony/vegas pro 8.
While the option is there to choose a different install location the problems of finding plugins, and such exists.

Did you use the default install location when you did the initial setups? If not, maybe that is an issue.

OpenType is intended by Microsoft and Adobe to be the successor to the TrueType font format which was developed by Apple Computer

Wikipedia doesn’t shed much light on the problem, actually makes it more confusing.

Somehow it’s backwards because my ProType Titler works fine with TTF fonts but ignores the entire Adobe library, which is OpenType.

I’ll keep digging.

I had a very bad experience with a USB portable drive that I purchased and “quick formated” to NTFS. I believe this is equilant to convert/FS:NTFS. It was unstable and made a habit of going off line from time to time. Then one day it just quit. Did not show up as a drive in “My Computer”.

I restored it with Restore 2000 software and copied the contents to a different drive. I then reformatted (the slow way) the orig USB portable drive to NTFS and it has been stable and usable ever since.

I think the problem with the quick format is that it doesn’t detect and mask bad sectors.

I use several USB external HDDs and I take the time to completely format them to NTFS before I use them in my system.

Of course, I’m paranoid and that may explain some of my issues.

It’s just that while marking the “in” point, when you see or hear the cue it’s already too late to “mark it earlier” so I have to manually subtract 1 sec. It really gets to be a chore.

On a related issue, if after the project is finished you want to save as, w/project media trimmed, you get the option of extra head and tail.

Happy that worked for you. I only recently discovered the feature when I upgraded to Vegas 8 and the lip sync seemed further off than before.

Can you help me with the Question I posted earlier?

How can I get Vegas capture to give me some header or extra leader after I mark an “in” point and extra trailer after the out point. I understand this is not an uncommon feature in NLE. I’ve noticed that when I batch capture the “capture duration” counter begins counting well ahead of the “in” point, as if it is recording additional material before the marked in point. But upon playback I almost always upcut the first word of my audio if I mark the in point even close to the beginning of a clip.

I hope you followed that question, it was as clear as I can phrase it.

I forgot to add that both systems run very quite, almost silent, and neither has had any cooling problems.

My system, Vegas 8, firewire to DSR-2000, S-video out to Sony PVM-20M4U.

I run video preview at “preview full” quality and get 29.970 disply rate on unaltered AVI clips.

Computer audio was out of sync with ext monitor video initially.

I changed the settings in

Options / Preferences / Video Preview Device / Sync offset slider. I set the numerical value to 9.

Computer Audio sync is now matching ext monitor video sync. It really does work. Try it.

I have 2 PCs side by side with similar gigabyt S-series mainboards. Windows XP PRO

One machine with dual core 3 gig hz, the other with Quad core 2.4 gig hz. Both with 4 gig RAM (with only 3. 5 gig showing, but that’s another story)

The quad core has better performance overall, and multitasking is a lot better.. Sorry, no benchmark tests to report but performance with quad core is improved.

Rendering of MPG2 files will run all 4 processors at 70 to 90 percent on the taskmanager display and a 20 min timeline can rendered to an MPG2 file in about 10 mins. 2 to 1 ratio. I believe this to be excellant.

Yes Vegas has Sorensen 3 codec.

Select area to be rendered. Goto file / render as / select Quicktime 7 mov / click “custom” /click video tab / click video format / click sorensen 3. done

Yes, vegas 8 is a stepping stone to vegas 9 which is a stepping stone to vegas 10 and so on. Usually about 1 yr to 1 1/2 yrs between stones with a couple of upgrades in between.

Yes you can by enabling DV Scene dection in Options / preferences / capture tab. Must be firewire capture and must be camera orig.
