Core2duo vs Quad core
I’m building a new system soon. Budget-minded, I’m wondering if the Core2-quad will offer significant improvement over core2duo as far as Vegas 8 is concerned. Both are 2.4 g, $50 diff. More temperature issues with the Quad? (I like quiet fans.)
Also thinking Gigabyte or Asus board w Intel P-35 chipset.
any thoughts appreciated,

It is my understanding (and I could be wrong on this) that the quad is actually cooler than the Core2.

Check out the NEW Rendertest-HDV.veg thread on the Sony Vegas forum.
You’ll see several reports of different render times on various systems.
Then decide if you want to spend the extra for a quad core or not. -
I have 2 PCs side by side with similar gigabyt S-series mainboards. Windows XP PRO
One machine with dual core 3 gig hz, the other with Quad core 2.4 gig hz. Both with 4 gig RAM (with only 3. 5 gig showing, but that’s another story)
The quad core has better performance overall, and multitasking is a lot better.. Sorry, no benchmark tests to report but performance with quad core is improved.
Rendering of MPG2 files will run all 4 processors at 70 to 90 percent on the taskmanager display and a 20 min timeline can rendered to an MPG2 file in about 10 mins. 2 to 1 ratio. I believe this to be excellant.

I forgot to add that both systems run very quite, almost silent, and neither has had any cooling problems.

Anybody have any experience with the Quad Xeons? I am looking at a Quad Xeon 2.66 GHz. Would this be faster than the Quad Core2’s?
