I recently upgraded Vegas Pro 12 build 486 to build 563 due to the thumbnail creation issues with the 486 build. The good news is that Vegas no longer locks up when the number of thumbnails in the “C:UsersTheBoxAppDataLocalSonyVegas Pro12.0Media Pool Thumbnails” folder exceeds 256. Also, once a thumbnail is stored in that folder it appears to rebuild much faster when scrolling through the clips in the media bin.

Now for the bad news… After the upgrade, sometimes the thumbnail you see in the media bin does not correspond to the clip associated with it. The thumbnail might even be from a different project. Somehow the the thumbnail / video clip association gets confused in the media bin.

The trick is to delete all the thumbnails in the “C:UsersTheBoxAppDataLocalSonyVegas Pro12.0Media Pool Thumbnails” and re-open the project to allow the thumbnails to rebuild (again).

Two steps forward, one step back…

Sony is really having some quality control and regression testing issues. I heard somewhere that one of their lead developers for SVP left, and since then things have been going downhill.

It is frustrating when you are trying to make a living and have to put up with all this cr*p. When I first moved to SVP8, it was great and stable, and previews were like butter. SVP11 was probably the most unstable for me, but surpisingly, SVP12 appears to have reversed the downward trend, although there is still room for improvement.

I wonder if their is going to be a SVP13, or are they going to go to 14?

regarding SVP 13. I have wondered the same thing. In Japanese culture the number 13 has a bad reputation, but so does the number 4 and 9. They didn’t skip those numbers and I bet they won’t skip 13 either. If for no other reason just to lower expectations. lol

regarding SVP 12. They actually added some features that for me were very important. They thumbnail fiasco was more a disaster because it took so long to fix it.

As for now, I can handle any inconvenience that doesn’t cause me to lose work.

X3? I hope not. Sounds even more experimental then it already is.
