Yeah, when I saw the dead on arrival thread which was up in moments after the software was released, I did think it was pretty ridiculous and showed great, not to mention silly, bias.

I am cross posting to say that I did export an XML timeline from X and then reimported back into X and it went perfectly.

Yeah, It took no time at all.

I also tried applying optical flow to several clips (previously a reliable crasher) and that seemed to work.
I am still working on the first project I have tried on X, a largish documentary short film. I’ve been working on the project sporadically over the past month.
There are truly things that I don’t or didn’t like about X but this morning (prior to the update), I felt like I was really getting into the rhythm of it. This update comes at a perfect time for me.

Just did an export of a timeline in XML.

    Then reimported.

    Worked perfectly.

    Thanks Guys,

I see that these solutions do work.

I don’t understand the metaphor of the why however.

Why do I WANT to make a clip a secondary storyline when it is already sitting there exactly where I want it with some artificial state that prevents a transition being placed upon it. It doesn’t make sense.

But many thanks for the answers.

    Thanks Dave,

Yes, I read that document when it came out. It does not mention this issue, unless I missed something. Did you see something specifically referencing the issue somewhere?

    Thanks,

    Lance

    P.S. I am using CS 5.5.

    Thanks Alban,

Agreed about having multiple selects on a single clip and I am benefiting from this also.
But in a situation where you just want to look at another clip for a moment (for instance) and you lose your I/O on the previously viewed clip…this is pretty dumb.

Also must say that the way the each event window COMPLETELY resets itself whenever you switch to another one makes organization harder and is just plain bad.

I will make more notes in this thread when I continue work on the project.

    Thanks Alban! Love the blog!

Based on your kind feedback, I did a check and I see that (under the playback prefs) you can choose better performance and get the spacebar to respond better. I am using a fairly kick ass machine (6 core 3.33 32GB RAM) but removable firewire media (which is typical for most jobs).

    New Note:

    5. The fact that clips lose their in and outs the moment you leave them..how can that be a good idea? I am marking for selects as you discuss above but let me say that this is one more step unnecessary in 7.

Yeah, I am liking a lot of stuff but I thought notes might help someone just to know if a behavior is expected. It is certainly what I would like to read here.

That other forum seems to JUST be the bashing forum. I understand that. I would really love to have Randy Ubillos sitting right here beside me so that I could occasionally crash his face into the desk.

Yes, there is still no output from Black Magic via FCPX. Supposedly, it is coming.
Hopefully the implementation will be better than the rather brain dead one currently in place.

Like most everyone, I suspect, I want the external feed to mirror the viewer, not replace it. My external broadcast monitor is slightly elevated for clients to see more so than me.
