July 20, 2011 at 1:55 pmIt will be interesting to see if the Lion file versioning feature will be any use as far as having a history of your Fcpx project file.
Cheers,
Brendan

July 20, 2011 at 3:02 pmSeems like we are unable to choose an install location, contrary to what I’ve read was possible from people with dev versions around the web. I clicked “Buy” and it just starts… Figured. Download canceled immediately.
I followed DRW’s “Ready to Rumble” guide and have a blank “Lion” partition, ready. I guess it will have to be an upgrade to Snow Leopard. Here it goes…

Yes, Snow Leopard must be installed. In DRWs case, you would clone your test Snow leopard partition to the blank Lion partition.

July 20, 2011 at 3:33 pmCool, I left it blank instead of cloning in hopes of a true clean install but this new fangled “clean upgrade” will have to do.

July 20, 2011 at 3:45 pmYou can download and quit the installer before it does anything.
You can burn the disc image to a bootable DVD or USB drive.
You don’t actually need Snow Leopard installed. You can install to a clean blank drive if you wish.https://www.macrumors.com/2011/07/18/make-an-os-x-lion-boot-disc/
I tried it with the GM and it works. Todays release is identical to the GM.
Lion does not unlock any secret super duper improvements to FCPX.

Nice one. I would think that you would be able to restore this disk image to a USB drive or whatever partition on a hard drive and get away from the DVD.

July 20, 2011 at 8:49 pmJust a quick note to say that, because I am between projects at home, I went ahead and upgraded, as I usually do.
No known issues. FCP X And 7 running on same partition. Got new drivers from Black Magic for FCP7, all is working there.
Not a big believer in the idea of 20 different partitions but if that works for you, fine.
While I do remember occasional issues with upgrading in the past, they are a distant memory.
I suspect that the time I have saved by not using a super cautious approach may outweigh the ultimate time lost due to the occasion of having to do a complete rebuild (which I was prepared to do if necessary but has never happened).Lance
