    Hmm…looking at this in After Effects CS 5.5…

    If I have a rendered AE movie that is imported into FCPX and then I make a change in AE and re-render (overwriting the old file), the file is missing in FCPX and I cannot get it to relink.

    I have deselected XMP in the output module (apparently even with this off some XMP–Time Code is still written to the file.

    Is anyone else getting this to work as described above?

    This is a huge problem from my perspective, bigger than things like Multi-Cam.

    I should also mention that after installing Lion, your system may seem EXTREMELY sluggish for the first hour or so as indexing and other functions seem to take over a lot of cycles.

    Just a quick note to say that, because I am between projects at home, I went ahead and upgraded, as I usually do.

    No known issues. FCP X And 7 running on same partition. Got new drivers from Black Magic for FCP7, all is working there.

    Not a big believer in the idea of 20 different partitions but if that works for you, fine.

    While I do remember occasional issues with upgrading in the past, they are a distant memory.
    I suspect that the time I have saved by not using a super cautious approach may outweigh the ultimate time lost due to the occasion of having to do a complete rebuild (which I was prepared to do if necessary but has never happened).

    Gosh there are many reasons for doing so. To make a sound that followed some dialog on the track happen sooner or later, for instance.

    Then you might later discover that you want to synch back up with some later dialog.

    Hi Nevin,

    You are correct that the option to set a scaling KF to smooth is available in FCP7. It just doesn’t work. See After Effects for how an ease in should look.

    Yes, I think this behavior has always been part of FCP. You can definitely do bezier on x/y motion.

    I was referring to scaling, for instance.

    For light motion graphics use, having a photo zoom from one area to another AND STOP, or having a logo grow bigger AND STOP is sort of an everyday need.

    FCP has NEVER been able to do this smoothly, always using linear starts and stops. This makes almost all of the animation features in FCP useless for anyone with any taste.

    I am not sure that this might help or not but I have found that Exporting the sequence as a straight Quicktime movie (not sending it to compressor) and then manually dragging the resulting movie to compressor to do your final export can often clear up rendering problems that rarely crop up in FCP.
