Yeah, I read the article.
It and the AE help says that to stop a preview you have to:
“Press any of the preview keyboard shortcuts: Spacebar, Numpad-0, or Shift + Numpad-0.”
That is not working—for me the preview continues to try to cache until it gets to the end of the sequence–nothing seems to be able to stop it.

That works with Red footage but no such effect with Sony raw? Is that correct?

Yeah–you might look at how Lightroom does it–subtly but helpfully, using that grey frame around the image. The exact same user need exists in PP.
One of my biggest gripes is how PP forgets the sort given to a bin. Why do I have to set that over and over again?

In general I like PP but if it locks up or act strangely, it is common enough that I am not surprised.
Personally, I have no interest in many of the features that are being added to PP–things like tracking and so forth that are better done in other apps.
I would give up a lot of features in order to get bullet proof performance.
As of now, PP reminds me of the early days of FCP (although PP still seems a bit more unreliable to me).

Could you make some collider objects that don’t render but have that wedge shape so that the particles do part in the way you wish but are not seen in the render?
I think rob garriot did something very like this in a recent show (maybe Siggraogh ) and that video is up on Cineversity. he had wind particles parting in from of a bike..

Sure, just wanted to be sure we were following the same procedure. The C4D importer is not needed if you have updated to yesterday’s release of After Effects (2014.1). That was just part of an unfortunate workaround for a nasty bug in the first release of 2014.
So here are the steps I followed.
1. In my AE project, import your C4D file.
2. Drag imported C4D file onto new sequence icon.
3. Highlight C4D clip in timeline (should already be highlighted) to access effects properties.
4. Click on the last button in the Cineware parameters list: Cinema 4D Scene Data–“Extract”A new camera is created along with the floor position null you made in C4D.
I note that the null (as in C4D) is not oriented toward the camera (not a big deal if you are only using it to lock to).8073_pbcdenverwithnull.aep.zip
