yes progressive mode on the pd150 or pd170 is only good for capturing clear stills from video, for it records at only 15fps and doesnt make for pretty video. if you want progressive mode or the “look,” then use a camera with progressive ccds or do the effect in post. and i have the 501 head and its a decent match for the pd170 camera. there are better heads of course, but the 501 is good for the money.

I’ll certainly go to the sony website and do my part in requesting this feature. I rave all the time about how much better, more user friendly, and faster vegas is compared to FCP or avid. BUUUT.. if it can’t support a very widely used format such as the panasonic stuff, thats a strike against my bragging abilities.

So if some of you are actually using DV50 material, how does that work? if it’s not done via firewire, how is it acquired, edited, and output back to tape? do i have to use that decklink system or something similar? this is the question. thanks for the replies so far!

  • i can save snapshots just fine.. but does anyone know how to turn off the resizing it does? i want to save out a 720×480 image, NOT a 654×480 image. anyone know how to turn off any kind of resizing it does?
