I just got the 6 core but made sure I got the D700’s. It came with 32GB RAM but may upgrade to 64 in the future – I’ll see how this next show goes – a Red Dragon feature.

I also got the OWC Thunderbay 4 which was a great buy at 1199.00 for 16TB – reads about 525MB sec. in RAID 5.

Same here – lost a few hours work of my demo artist gig and left early Wed before seeing all the goodies… worst NAB ever.

I actually like the interface and fell it has now a certain sophistication not to mention the most beautiful scopes of anything out there.

Funny but I feel the same way you do but about Premiere CC – the past couple of revs it’s gotten completely cartoony with weird chicklet style buttons and sliders in the newest announced rev. I hate the new look and am glad I made the switch full-time to FCPX. That said I too struggle with the whole Library/Event?Project thing – don’t like it at all.

  • Love this thread! I too have the dual 2.93 4,1 and really struggling the past couple of weeks over next move as I have a Red feature starting soon as we want to cut native .rd3.

Was considering the OWC Mercury Accelsior for boot/FCPX Library, upping RAM from 16 to 48, internal RAID card and top it off with off the shelf GTX 980 which rivals DUAL D700 performance for $550. BUT, memory, motherboard all old and slow and still bottlenecks performance. So is it worth it to spend a couple of grand to keep a classic running for maybe 2 more shows or go new MacPro or 5K iMac? That’s the question. I’d hate to spend 5 or 6 grand on a new Mac Pro ow and then see a upgraded version announce at WWDC in June.

After seeing Kinefinity 6K footage at NAB playing on a 5K iMac (stunning!) I’m really leaning that way. You can get into a fully loaded iMac via Apple refurb store for well under $4K and then add new Mac Pro later?

    Decisions…

Crazy how they placed the new Lumetri color panel exactly where the Color panel is in FCPX – which I love by the way. Nice move Adobe.

Have you looked at the files on a Mac yet? I’ve had renders look a little washed out in QT on PC but look fine once they were in FCPX…
