I so concur! Been working all weekend on a show and it the magnetic timeline is a double-edged sword for sure. Has nothing to do with training wheels or not knowing how to use it – just the fact that it can get in the way sometimes and actually be quite maddening. For instance some sync audio attaching to slug instead of a clip and having move it out of sync to break it away from the slug. Or deleting a clip and not realizing some sound fx and a 3 minute music track were attached to the 36 frame piece of nothing.
That said, I love FCPX and just finished my first Red Dragon feature film cutting .r3d’s in real-time – NO PROXY’S! I actually start color timing the entire show in FXPX at 4K rez tomorrow! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4486728/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
Still, I’m looking forward to testing out Resolve 12 and will make the switch if it meets my needs – just like I switched to FCPX 10.2 when I felt it met my current needs.

I think you need to re-read your own posts – your condescension and kindergarten level fanboyism was plain as day and your training wheel analogy is just ignorant. Why any FCPX fanboy such you and Charlie would feel so threatened is just silly. We’re not talking about some questionable start-up, we’re talking about a product with a legacy that is second to none and has been a top of choice of post pro’s since the time of the first Macintosh 1984 commercial! People are going to use it, deal with it.

While I’m a CC subscriber and past Premiere user/supporter, I’ve been underwhelmed by Adobe and PPro over the past year and CC2015 is not as good as I had hoped. But yeah, if I moved to PC full time I’d always have CC as an option. Though if Resolve 12 is not-ready-for-primetime I’d just stick with Mac/FCPX which I prefer to PPro.

I agree Oliver – I really only have one more round of upgrades on the old Mac due to aging PCIe 2.0 and slow RAM – lots of bottle necks. The only problem I have with the new Mac Pro is the D700’s are now getting their butts kicked by a single Titan X card. This is why I may move back to PC as main workstation if Resolve 12 is as good as it looks – it’s so easy to stick a new GPU in every time there’s a major increase in performance, which is often vs. being stuck with D700’s with no upgrade path.

I have the same 2009 Mac Pro and agonized and analyzed about doing what Marco did or getting a new Mac Pro. Because I was about to cut a RED raw feature I opted for the new Mac. While I like it and the Thunderbolt raids I have attached, it’s not everything I hoped for in the performance department. Sadly when I got back from location and tested out some of the footage on my old Mac it was fine and I realize I should have just done the upgrade.
Now with Resolve 12 on the horizon I’ve decided to sell the new Mac Pro once this show is fully wrapped and use the cash to upgrade my old Mac Pro with a GTX980, PCIe drive and more RAM AND also upgrade my PC with TitanX card and PCIe drive. And I should have some cash left for other little goodies like internal SSD’s etc.

I agree – really excited to test 12 out and have high hopes! While I love FCPX and love cutting on my new Mac Pro and Thunderbolt RAIDs I would actually make the switch back to Windows if Resolve is as good as I hope. Why? Power and Speed! Consider that the TitanX GPU is twice as powerful as my dual D700’s and I have a workstation just standing by to add the card to. Then is 6 months, when the next gen CPUs and GPUs hit I just swap them out. Otherwise I’m waiting for Apple to release an newer Mac Pro and spend another 6 grand? I don’t think so…
Here’s hoping.

My favorite feature of the new Media 100 was the uninstall button….

I find the most frustrating thing about FCPX is it rejecting footage as not compatible especially when it’s the exact footage that was in the cut!?! It really should take ANY footage I choose not matter what the framerate, size, audio config who cares it should be my choice!
As far as the round-tripping thing, I hate round–tripping of any kind and am currently cutting a RED feature shot 4K on 2 Dragons at 7:1 in real-time natively in FCPX. No proxies! It’s fantastic! Though I will say it’s even faster in Premiere CC on the same machine though the 5 tracks of audio make it a pain to cut in anything but FCPX which handles multi-track audio in a smart way.

Yes we will – I hope I’m right in thinking the faster 3.5Ghz will speed up my editing vs. the additional cores that really help with renders…

So far I’m liking it a lot. We start shooting the new feature next Monday so I’ll know quick whether I can cut native r3d or do proxy workflow.
I studied all the benchmarks on barefeats.com and decided the D700’s, 32GB RAM and the 1TB storage were most important for me. Having 3.5Ghz for editing also very cool. I really wanted the 1TB version so I had room for the FCPX library and cache for maximum speed. It’s really making a difference so far.
I bought from the Apple refurb store and saved about $800 over BTO.
