Love South Lower! That’s where I’ll be at the AJA booth again.
Though Central is the place if you’re in production. Can’t wait to see some Sony F55 footage on the big screen…
By the way Bob – you doing your usual Hard Rock drinkfest again?

I totally agree… there’s nothing like seeing new products live, going to events, screenings, parties etc.
I think Apple has blown it the past few years with their “no trade show” policy. How much is it worth to have a hundred thousand live people from all over the globe seeing/touching your product and then going home and telling everyone about it?
I’ll be working the AJA booth as usual… can’t wait!

As I did last year I highly recommend Eastside Cannery on the Boulder Strip – about 10-15 min drive to NAB. Super clean and nice rooms for around $59 per night. I’ve stayed there several times and love it. Though I did stay at Vdara last year and that was fantastic.
If you don’t care about staying on the Strip Eastside Cannery has great buffet/restaurants/bars at old school Vegas prices.

I fully understand your feelings toward FCPX – I had gone back and forth with it through each revision and still wasn’t convinced. Then I watched John Davidson’s videos and everything changed for me – the workflow he espouses just makes sense and works fantastic. Sure it still lacks some features and there are things I’d change but running it on a new iMac has been great so far… a lot faster and more fun than any NLE I’ve used.

Good news! I’ve been playing with the latest version on my PC and it’s really cool once you get the hang of it. Looking forward to loading it up on my new iMac…

Lightworks is actually really stable now and even the paid version has a lot of bang for the buck 🙂 Best dynamic trimming I’ve ever seen. It’s seems to be designed mainly for narrative work but editing is editing, you gotta learn the craft not just the software.
Funny had you not dumped Apple and FCPX you’d have paid once and had 7 free upgrades already and your students would love it.

I agree Craig I see real traction happening with FCPX among young filmmakers, far more than Premiere or Avid. Here in LA it’s finally being seen as a legitimate NLE by those who’ve actually checked it out since the Conan “review”. The other evidence to me is the amount of decent plug-ins and FX being released for X vs. other NLE’s – just tons of useful stuff at great prices.
