  • Why NAB is relevant in the social media age

I think there are three reasons NAB is still a valuable and unique opportunity in our industry.

First, talking face to face with a product rep and seeing the actual product is not possible over the internet. The product either does what it says or it doesn’t…slick marketing copy has no place here…this is reality.

Second, holding a camera or rig, seeing the resolution of a monitor, or hearing the clarity of a pair of Genelecs is only possible in person. Where else do you have the entire industry in one place? Might as well stop in the Christie booth to see the latest in ultra high def projection…I’m here, right?

Third, seeing old friends and colleagues. I lived in Hawaii for ten years as an editor and NAB is where I can meet up for lunch with old friends and talk shop for a bit…plus the COW crowd and the “celebs” in our circles are always great to meet up with.

There is so much more. I’m actually looking forward to it. How do you see it?

I totally agree… there’s nothing like seeing new products live, going to events, screenings, parties etc.

I think Apple has blown it the past few years with their “no trade show” policy. How much is it worth to have a hundred thousand live people from all over the globe seeing/touching your product and then going home and telling everyone about it?

I’ll be working the AJA booth as usual… can’t wait!

    Hi Rich and Lance,
I agree with both of you. A one stop shop to see the latest, talk to the representatives from that particular company, and get familiar with the equipment on display. Plus, make new friends from around the world. We can’t forget about the training sessions, some you pay for and the free training sessions are on the exhibitors floor (Sony for example). Don’t forget the parties, some you have to be invited to and others you need to register in advance. Lance, if I get time I’ll stop by the AJA booth to say hi.
    Enjoy NAB 2013
